Here are those results.

chris@CF-19 ~ $ lsmod | grep -i iwlwifi
iwlwifi 282624 1 iwldvm
cfg80211 622592 3 iwlwifi,mac80211,iwldvm

On a side note, today the cf-19 connected by just cycling the wireless, it retained the other settings this time.

I'm also running this same LM version on my Lenovo T420 which is using an intel centrino advanced n 6205 and that laptop connects instantly without doing a thing. Now to try your suggestion on rolling back the driver as soon as I figure out how that works in linux. :read:

edit; I forgot to add that the version I'm using is 64bit.

Appreciate your patience and that you do your own research.

Ima gonna :) install this on my MK6 when I find the spare caddy. 4 hour download last night.

Thus far.
Downloaded linuxmint-18-3 etc. to a Linux machine. (MX-17)

First I shortened the name to 8 characters. (Just something I do....necessary only with DOS.)

Then from terminal I overwrote a USB stick with:

Code: Select all

sudo cp lm18cn64.iso /dev/sdc
My CF-52 has two hard drives. Checked for correct title to USB with gparted. Important that you drop the number...sdc not sdc1.

After a long wait, since it is copying the iso byte by byte, it finished with no fanfare.

Shut down and re-booted to the stick.

Bingo...wireless recognized...gave it the router password and here it is .

Sent from CF-54 LinuxMint 18.3
1. Function keys not working.
2. Touchscreen not working yet.

Expect more soonish.

STICKY SHIFT KEY SO ALL CAPS.

BOOTED FROM MINT USB.

STARTED WIRELESS BEFORE TAPPING INSTALL.

CHECKED THE THIRD PARTY BOX.

LEFT PASSWORD AT BOOT ON.

NOTES:

TOUCH AND DIGITIZER WORK.

FN [F1] AND [F2] DO NOT.

NOW I NEED TO FIND THE CF-31 WITH DIFFERENT WIRELESS CARD.

jay@jay196 ~ $ lsmod | grep iwl
iwldvm 233472 0
mac80211 782336 1 iwldvm
iwlwifi 225280 1 iwldvm
cfg80211 602112 3 iwlwifi,mac80211,iwldvm

WIRELESS WORKS.

Here's the CF-31.
These steps:
1. Set bios to defaults.
2. Set bios to boot from USB. [save] I use the rear USB 2.0 port out of habit.
3. Boot
4. When booted enable wireless.
5. Click install.
6. Check third party box.
7. Use password at boot setting.
8. Wait for install.
9. Shutdown and pull media when requested.

Figure out the settings for function keys 'cause the wireless works.

Seems like the kernel is overly concerned with wireless settings causing a lag in boot time. CF-19MK6 boots to password prompt in 9 seconds with ssd FWIW.

Checking network settings...........switched ipv6 to ignore...rebooting.......

Boots to password prompt in +35 seconds on old beater 80Gb 5400 spinner.

My 19 is a MK4, both F1 & F2 keys work as well as the front hot keys for brightness. The other 4 keys are not yet co-operating, I got as far as being able to rotate using the terminal but can not seem to get it programmed to the rotate hot key and touch works fine as well.
When I installed LM I did so with the iso on a usb stick however I plugged in the ethernet cable before using the wireless, I wonder if that was the right way or the wrong way for these toughbooks. So close...

I have a CF-31SDLAX1M as well and soon as I can scare up another caddy, I would like to put LM 18.3 on that as well. How is everything working on the cf-31?

Works nice. I have a spare caddy laying here somewhere. I get average ebay price plus shipping.

Check the Linux section for tablet buttons on CF-19.

While I was looking for a solution I discovered that my bios's (V4.20L11) setup utility does not have 4 settings that are indicated in the cf-19 reference manual.

Wireless Switch, Wireless LAN, Wireless WAN and Bluetooth are not there, but this CF-19VMRFX2M did not come with WLAN or Bluetooth. I'm wondering if that could be an underlying issue. Also noticed that there is a red x on the wireless switch icon located in the delta icon on the taskbar, when right clicked there is only the version number with no way to access any settings the panasonic dashboard shows the utility there but no way there either.

I popped the LM 18.3 Distro into the CF-31 and no problems connecting at all.
