Which 51 do you think gives the best color. The two 51's I have listed below, one has the standard intel video and one with the ATI 128. Now I would think that the ATI would have the better picture/color but the intel on mine has a better one. I have tried others on this 51 but no difference (switched the whole top lid) Is yours the same? I will post a pic later on of the two.

CF-51RC4KFBM Description: Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz (Centrino), 15" XGA, 1GB, 80GB, 56K, 1Gb Ethernet, Intel 802.11a+b+g, DVD-Multi drive, FDD, WIN XP SP2,Smartcard,Fingerprint
CF-51PFVDEBM Description: Intel Core Duo T2500 2.0GHz (Centrino), 15" UXGA, 512MB, 80GB, 128MB VRAM, 56K, 1 Gb Ethernet, Intel 802.11a+b+g, COMBO drive, FDD, WIN XP SP2, TPM1.2 (128 ATI Mobility Radeon XL1300)

I downloaded the second pic from the internet and have it as a wallpaper on my expensive IPS screened thinkpad
Second pic, the right looks closer to what I see
BTW I recieved my CF-51RCBDFBM today , $200 barebones, but hd caddy and optical included ,240hrs
It's my first personal cf-51 , I have brought them in for customers
It was non working when I recieved it
It did not boot!
I had to add a stick of ram lol

I just swapped out UXGA with a XGA screen and it looks great so now the question is what's wrong with that UXGA screen ?

So Alex, you going to upgrade the cpu :) . With only 240 hours it should be in good shape.

Blair, just because the Intel looks better doesn't mean it is... It would appear that the Intel one just pumps up the brightness to make novice people think that it's a better picture but it's not! Open up a HIGH DEF photo of some scenery (in particular GREEN) and ask yourself "Is that what it really looks like in real life?"

This argument goes ON AND ON about plasma VS LCD/LED too... LCD just pumps up the brightness to fool people into thinking that it's a better picture, but in fact you will again ask yourself "Is this what it really looks like in real life?"... 99% of the time your answer will be no. The greens will be a dull blueish and the purples will appear blueish too... Ever watch a football game on an LCD? IT'S HORRIBLE!!! Look at the color of the grass!!! A real good football stadium with GRASS or ASTROTURF is like GREEN GREEN!!! Now look at it on an LCD and look at it on a plasma... You tell me what is better (brightness aside!)

This is why LCD sales are above plasma TV sales because people are so ignorant that they see a shiny light and they are fooled into believing that it's better, when in fact, in 99% of the circumstances plasma is a better picture!

If you must watch TV or a movie with the sun shining directly on the TV (IE, Outdoors) then LCD will probably be your best bet. I don't know about you but when I watch a movie or some TV I generally turn on only 1 light in my living room or turn the lights completely off (Especially for a movie...)

Tomcat, go for the cpu upgrade, these old cf-51's(core duo/core2duo) have been a load of fun to upgrade, simple to work on and have been relatively inexpensive and a big bang for the buck. I have a couple with the 256mb video ram and just upgraded to do it. Really can't say the picture is better but sure looked good. Did the same thing with a gateway one with the ati graphics if I remember well, that screams and looks good doing it. Anyhow, the cpu power is fantastic for a stationary not out in the field laptop, unlike the cf-29-30 family. But I use the cf-51 C2D a lot and it's been a good deal. would like to try out something on the cf-52 lower end laptop to see if and what I could do with that. Still looking for a deal on which to experiment................Driller
