Hello, I'm new here, I'm thinking of buying a cf-18 or a cf-29, I'm mainly going to use the net or Adobe PhotoShop, my current netbook runs at 1600 mhz, it doesn't bother me going a bit slower, can anybody advise which is best, It needs to have usb2.0 fitted, what's the screen res, can I upgrade the CPU? I've read I think it'd the site owners profile and he's a 72 running at 2400 mhz, just trying to get asmuch advice so I buy the right toughbook. Thanks for your time dj

A cf-29 is your best bet if you need a fully rugged model

1024x768 screen resolution and a choice of processers depending on model 1.2,1.3,1.4 or 1.6 non removable

Only some semi rugged models have removable processers as on my cf-72

I can tell you right now that your netbook has an Atom CPU in it... The Centrinos are better, more powerful processors to begin with. You would be upgrading in speed if you get a Mk4 or Mk5 1.6 CF-29...

Which brings me back to a question that I was discussing with TB today. Did the CF-25 has a socketed processor, anybody know for sure? I have a project in mind, but it would only be practical with a 233MMX model and a socketed CPU.

I had a few CF-25's
The processer is non-upgradable

Thanks!

Yeah, TB was telling me that he was pretty sure of that. I wanted to try a K6 in an 233MMX model. Bummer! :(

Thanks a lot for all the advice so far, yep its an atom processor, id prefer a fully rugged model, I ride a motorbike 90% off the Time and drive a land rover the rest, our little baby has wrecked three laptops so far (my wife leaves them out) so I need something tough, part of me is thinking a cf18 to be mobile ( I work nights so it something to do at break time) and a 7 series upgraded for home, how can I tell if I can upgrade the CPU? The 7 series seem cheap on ebay UK.
Thanks again for the advice so far dj

:hijacked: Sorry for the momentary hijack! Back to your question! :D

I would have a hard time believing that you would be happy with the performance of any notebook for the running of Adobe PhotoShop. The software is very CPU intensive and loves LOTS of RAM. Also, real graphics art work is very difficult to do on such a small machine. If your work is pretty casual you may get by, but any real work with this software is going to leave you hurting.

This is a job for a powerful desktop with a large monitor, or two.
