Well it was a good idea if it worked.

I've gone through 4 OSDisc installs. Purchased with Mint 18 32 bit and 64 bit. (on separate sticks)

They seem to work once and then crash with kernel panic.

1. I wiped the 32 bit the second time around and installed MX-15 and it's fine now. Im not done yet as I need to format the persistent portion. This is a 8GB partition ext4.

2. On the second 64 bit I got to looking at the way they were formatted. The 8GB partition with the OS and bootloader was formatted FAT32. Doesn't this have a 4GB maximum? So....I used convert on W7 to convert sdb1 to NTFS. Worked fine as far as the conversion went but kernel panic is still present.

3. The second partition the "persistent" portion is the remainder of the stick and formatted ext4. My home directory and all are present and accessible.

Last lines read: Multiple machines. For some reason I installed Mint 18 in a 29E. Then the stick malfunctioned. I have since moved the hdd to a 29L. And used it to build a boot disk for Mint18.

So....has anyone had experience with UUI (Universal USB Installer)? I'm suspicious of it.

The OSDisc USB sticks are fine....nice and solid aluminum. OSDisc replaced two sticks no questions asked. Good company.

I believe that there is too much Windowitis still in the system. Annnd I believe UUI (Universal USB Installer) caters to it. Cater may be the wrong adjective. (my adjective adverb instruction was circa 1962ish) They can't help it, it's the way they were trained.

Along with that you have W techs cooking Linux disks....etc. and etc. (PERSONAL OPINION) geared for people that won't let go of the security??? blanket of Windows.

While your OS usually makes the choice of hard drive format for you ahead of time, you can choose which format when you're re-formatting a drive, particularly an external drive. If you need the drive for a Windows-only environment, NTFS is the best choice. If you need to exchange files (even occasionally) with a non-Windows system like a Mac or Linux box, then FAT32 will give you less agita, as long as your file sizes are smaller than 4GB.

Giving up on this...recycling the OSDisc thumb drives into something useful....they ARE 32GB.

I have used UUI a few times without any issues, mint 17 32 bit, I think maybe Zorin 32 bit. I haven't tried to OS on same stick.
I'm playing with iPod classic 4th gen right now. Took out 40gb hdd and put in 128gn SSD. I'll never be Able to fill it up, but it's fun. Oh and lots of battery life now.
Pay attention to dinner.

I'm on 32 bit MINT 18 now. (Cinnamon DVD install) Hungry but Alice eats it up. (CF-53A(Alice)AGZX1M) (non-touch and ssd) 4G Ram. I think I'm still running "compatible" as AHCI crashed)

I think (lol) the 8 G partition with the balance of the stick ext4 confused the system. The UUI I mean. (and here I am talking about the 32G sticks)

Today was wood day and my buttocks are sore. Wife and I split and moved a bunch of oak into the woodshed. Beautiful day. (Bending and stretching after a month of rain = sore buttocks)

However she warmed up the lasagna and now I need to attend to dinner.

I created you a copy Feb 2017 iso of MX-16 for you on the trusty 29 and made you a live usb with mx-linux tools.
First I used "snapshot" and copied the working system of the 29. Then I used Live usb maker (mx tools) and created a bootable live usb image. Rebooted, and chose f-5 "persistence all" hit f-8 to save and hit enter. System talked me through adding a root and home persistence on the usb...voila you are good to go with a TalkingDogRanch 32 bit 16GB Cruzer usb that should work on many of your fleet. MX-Linux makes it easy. You should be able to work your "D-D" magic and copy this onto another usb drive to send to a friend, unless you want to install this directly to your hard drive....enjoy
