I am thinking of trying it as a dual-boot with XP Pro.

I am still shy of it. But then again, I stayed with DOS until Win98SE2 came out... :D

Ihave just finished installing Windows 7 Pro on the new HDD, but if I keep it I will have to have XP as well. I am trying to figure it out right now. Having never used Vista and I pretty lost! I am used to knowing where everything is and all the shortcuts!

The only think that it did not find in updates is my sound card and 1 "Unknown Device" which I am too sleepy to know what is at the moment.

Once I figure that out I will start looking for drivers that will run on Win7.

Oh, my computer is a CF-29N.

In my sleep deprived stupor I may have misspoke, Win7 did not find my OEM Intel Wi-Fi card on its install.

So I plugged in an Ethernet cable and ran Win-Update that way. It found everything except Hotkeys (the UNKNOWN) device and the sound card. I used the OEM XP drivers for my CF-29L for both of those and it now runs fine.

Go here for Vista Drivers for the CF-29. You will need to create a password and login.

Good Luck!

So the big question is how does it run? I only have Vista on one laptop and it was such a huge pig for a low budget laptop that I was hesitant to try Vista or 7 on my CF-29.

I never ran Vista and only worked on one machine with it. It was a Japanese machine and belonged to a Japanese female house guest that I needed to put on my Wi-Fi network, so I was so confused by the language and OS differences, I really did not have time to formulate much of an opinion of Vista....but I digress.

It is faster then XP and perhaps even more stable. My CF-29N had 1.280 GB of RAM and I would guess that it a good think. The ReadyBoost feature is interesting and I have 4GB of Class 10 SDHC memory in the OEM SD slot. This seems to make a big difference in the amount of time that my HDD is being accessed and that is worth the $17 that this card set me back by itself! :D I will be running benchmarks soon.

The differences in the OS GUI are pretty wide, without my having Vista to transition on and mostly running in Classic Mode I am lost much of the time. I am used to knowing where everything is in XP! It will take a while to get up to speed on Win7, but for the most part I like it.

I do not like the way that Win7 tries to keep me out of internals of the OS, but that is par for the course now-a-days I guess! But overall my little CF-29 is running Win7 like it was intended for it.

Just an FYI.... I just put WIN 7 Enterprise on my CF29LW and I am very happy with the overall performance. I have 1.5G RAM, 80Gig HD 5400 RPM. Tscreen works, but the only issue I have is that older 915gm graphics card won't support AERO. Other than that, pretty fast and responsive....
Anyone needs any help, I will try my best to help out....
