why heaters on an SSD?

heaters make sense on a HD but why on a SSD?

That is a good question. I do know Panasonic does install them in there SSD caddy kit. I bought one some time ago .

It doesn't hurt!!! Why put extra stress on your data when you don't need to right?

Just my opinion. :)

Anyone read the specs of your SSD?
Even the enterprise / industrial ones are not recommended for sub zero weather..

Some industrial grade SSD's are rated to work as low as -40c. Overall, using your consumer grade SSD will enhance its lifetime if you refrain from using it in subzero temperatures.
NAND is subject to two competing factors relative to temperature. At high temperature, programming and erasing a NAND cell is relatively less stressful to its structure, but data retention of a NAND cell suffers. At low temperature, data retention of the NAND cell is enhanced but the relative stress to the cell structure due to program and erase operations increases.
