Dell 420

I got a dell 420 I am working on to sell. I got it about a year ago and just didn't have time. I got the parts to finish it in and went to boot it. With the 65 watt charger I got a this power supply isn't strong enough to run the pc and dock. Well I don't have a dock, so it's stuck thinking it's in a dock. I used a bigger dell charger I had and it wouldn't even boot with it. Just a black screen. Starting it with the smaller charger then after it starts to boot changing it to the bigger charger it doesn't give that message and seems to boot fine. Anyone had this problem before or know how to bypass the dock issue?

I got into bios and didn't see anything that was for turning the dock off, I was like the CF-19 and I could just remove the dock connection from the motherboard but on a ebay/google search of motherboards they don't look like the connection comes off.

Ador, want me to see if I have a spare 90 watt for dell? I'm sure I do here some where. Maybe see if I can find a dock that's compatible? Have a few docks here. I have a few D810's and D620's I will check those bios but I don't remember them having a disable function. Just a hot and warm choice.

Same deal with a Dell M90.Will not boot with the 90W but will charge the battery after I boot,it needs a 130W to work right.I have found no setting to turn that off.

I will just have to see if I have any bent pens, they didn't looked bent but may be.

I will just have to see on the charger, what I have in the trade department. What else are you still needing for you projects?

I have 2 of these right now and definately 1 spare 90 watt charger. Also think I may have an extended duty batt, but I'll have to recheck on that one.

If I remember my Dells right a docking station like this doesn't actually use much extra power. It is just basically a resting place to turn it into a desktop.

Oh and just for S&G I tried that dock on my beloved M-90. It fit. Will try it with power later.

I have decided that I will make a complete inventory list and post it. Just noticed the Panasonic docking stations sitting in the corner that I forgot about. SMH.

Ador, I am in bios of one of my d620's right now. I have a listing for "post behaviour" that turns OFF the power adaptor warnings. doubt that will help. and an entire section for "docking" . Nothing that turns off anything dock related. Do the bios say the machine is docked? If so then It's a safe bet it's a mechanical issue. Assuming you pulled the cmos batt and reset it to day 0 at the factory? Have you gone so far as to upgrade the bios itself yet?

I haven't tried to flash it yet. I was thinking it was something crossed or mechanical. I stopped working on it to do some work on another dell and two CF-52's. Just haven't got back to it yet.

Well I definitely have a 90 watt or 3 laying around here and the docks, if your interested. Will look see if I can find the spare 130 watters I had. Not sure if they got traded off yet or not.
