And I have the GPS mapper program to point my modern MK7 CF-19 to an "old-school" (Yeah right) NMEA GPS controller to link to whatever with 4800 baud.

If you have proof of concept I'll take it to the next level on Google Map and other Google "App store" testing! :)

Thanks!

Booting Android x86 on a CF31 mk2 using a Live USB stick. I am sure an actual HDD install will be better.
It boots into OS fast.

Touchscreen works. Calibration is off as the lower corners are out of range.
Intel WIFI works
Touchpad does not work
USB wireless mouse works fine
Using Google "setup my device" to connect with my phone and transfer settings.
Google play has crashed on CF 31.
CF 31 stuck in google setup. Rebooted

This time I skipped the WIFI setup deal.
Into main screen.
Logged into my router manually to avoid "Play store" crash
Google Maps is not installed by default.
We will need to research on how to install it.

Went to Google dot com then Maps. After about 15 seconds a satellite view of my exact location popped up. So Location seems to work with the Cf 31's GPS unit.

Not sure about the "Maps" application.

Google maps works ...VERY FAST. Maps gives an error notification that it won't work if you don't update Google play. Blah Blah Blah. It worked fine for me.

Built in browser would not let me download an apk. Downloaded browser let me do whatever I wanted.
I had to use another laptop and a USB stick to install different browser. If you search for Firefox make sure you search for Android x86. Normal Android browser won't work.
Link to latest Android x86 browser. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mobile/nigh ... d-i386.apk

You need to get into settings and permit unknown apk sources.
I installed es file explorer as the built in one was "less than"

The top notification bar took me a while to figure out. You need to hold mouse button and drag it down to open it.

There is a app called dev options. There is a way in there to configure touchscreen, but that's not my bag. I will wait for Jeff to figure it out.

I like this..A lot.

I bet Android x86 will do screen auto rotate on a CF19.
I doubt that the front buttons will work.

Shawn,

Did I miss something? Where is the image to load whatever OS works with that Google Maps that you said works just a bit ago?

Thanks!

Bumping this worthy thread. I should have some time to try this out in the near future, and found this new Android OS for Intel and x86-based PC's. Phoenix OS is a fork of the well known remix OS and x86-projects. There are detailed instructions to write Phoenix OS to a usb and get started. Once loaded you can choose Chinese or English language. Apparently it's not bloated with apps that one doesn't need and has to remove after installation. Here's the Sofpedia link:
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/O ... 3778.shtml
Here is the news release:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/introduc ... 9017.shtml
Reading further, to get this to work you must follow their directions exactly, and use a Windows system to do the magic.
I'll have to see if I still have a Win7 drive to use on the trusty 52 for this future project.
