So I got the printer recognized at the USB port but it prints a blank test page, this is my first try at a pure Linux system on a laptop. An i7 no less. I freely admit I'm clueless,my printer is an epson XP-410. :D

Try putting an ink cartridge in the printer ;)

Kerry, regarding your post:

What computer are you using? Most sophisticated linux operating systems have "cups" software already loaded. If you can NOT sort this out, try Navigatrix 0.5 : http://navigatrix.net/
running as a "live" usb or dvd install and see if it recognizes your printer. Alternate would be to try Zorin: http://zorin-os.com/free.html
They find my printer each time/every time... :pat:

cups is the answer....getting it for Mint 15 more difficult. You will need to look in archives for Mint 15.

I'll take a look in a bit.

So...google Mint 15 CUPS, Linux CUPS.

My wireless printer is a 1.5 minute install from a current Linux version after upgrades.

Check your PM. re:7

edit I'll take a look at Google too.

Run from terminal

Code: Select all

$lsusb
# to see if Mint sees the printer. edit You already said this...sorry.

Cut and paste the results here.

SAMPLE:

Code: Select all

jula@jula-CF-53JULA21M ~ $ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0430:0532 Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Sorry, I am not talking down or anything...I spent thirty some-odd teaching and just want to see if we are on the same page. Plus, when I answer most posts I am thinking about the lurkers and learners...not necessarily the OP.:D end second edit.

32 bit deb or 64 bit deb of course depending on your load-out. I prefer deb as it's more automagic.

Good choice on 17. If you get screen flicker there is a post to deal with that.

I use 15 every day...just don't try to upgrade. :)
