Hee Haw..If it wernt for bad luck.......

What voltage does the lcd backlight driver need on a CF53? Teo?

I "may" be able to use an aftermarket led driver and voltage source..

my misfortune...

Doesn't the CF-53 have an LED backlight? LED should not need a lot of voltage . . .

I bought it this way....It said the video was out.....I was hoping an easy fix.
Yes it is led backlight...I found the schematics for the LCD panel..It looks like it may need 12v.
If I use an aftermarket driver pcb, I could run 5v. 5v would be easily available.

Shawn.... It almost looks like there was something that got inside and shorted it out. Have you chased all the fuses? I think I saw that one on Feebay... I thought about bidding on it... But I already have enough. LOL

Rick,

From the information I have, there seems to be a problem with the video circuitry on CF53's...
They are setup very differently than any other Toughbook I have seen.
Touchscreen seems to be a permanent part of the LCD....
Touchscreen and backlighting are controlled by the same board.

The touchscreen is glued to the LCD and the bezel but not a part of it,I just replaced an LCD in a 53J. They use a double sided tape to hold it together, there are 3 cables.
The standard LCD cable doesnt run the backlight,it only moves the data. There is a cable to the outer touch panel and then the cable to the backlight. Again on a 53J so yours might be different.

Now if just the backlight is out that would be fixable if you can power up that cable,I would think.

Mine is a CF53J..Touchscreen..

Just backlight is out...
option 1 I need to find what the correct voltage is..Looking at LCD spec sheets..Need to ring out the cable and see if the power or ground is bad..Multiple pins carry power and ground
option 2 is use an aftermarket LED driver...5v..and steal power from a usb...probably on docking connector
option 3 is use an aftermarket LED driver and LED strip...
option 4 replace motherboard..

2 different LED driver pcb's are on the slow boat as I type....Also is the aftermarket LED driver and strip set.

Can you send me the bad lcd?...What's bad on it? Would be good to have a test bed to try swapping LED strips on..

Broken screen,I just replaced the LCD panel not the entire screen so no go there. I bet if you can figure the voltage you can light it at least.Have you split the top half yet?
