This is what people want for their older computers that are not ready to be replaced. Many distros out there are available, this is just one that being downloaded now that looks promising:

There is/are many different configurations, I am downloading the "lite version". Hopefully several users will try out what's available from Vector and report back here.

I tried that years ago, I think I still have a older disk at the house somewhere. I never fully installed it to a machine, just a virtual box virtual machine.

I, too, would be interested in knowing how Vectorlinux runs on the older Toughbooks.

I know it's already been said, but I prefer to remain upstream so I can stay as high up the kernel development tree and live dangerously on sid. Actually, I've had fixes come out on sid to fix one bug or another way before it trickles down to other distros, more often than break things. These days there are so many Debian derivatives it makes my head spin.

I sent copies of the install to Sadlmkr at Talking Dog Ranch.
The distro should work just fine, however it is not as polished for the newbie(me).
You have to partition your hard drive right off the bat, it does NOT do it for you like Mint, Zorin, Lubuntu, Ubuntu, etc.

I'm at work and have some time to read, and came across another article. This is to make my search easier when I start on Ken's project (more later on that). Here's the article which features 6 distributions, some that sound interesting:

I played with download feature of the following distribution, and came up with just under 200 mb.

Porteus was originally named Slax Remix. Porteus is a combination of "portability" and "Proteus", the god of the sea who could change his form. This is a reference to Porteus' flexibility; it weighs in at less than 300MB, and is optimized to run from a USB stick, CD, Compact Flash, or hard disk. It's a great way to get a prefab version of Slackware all ready to go to work. Porteus is a complete linux operating system that is reported as insanely fast which allows you to start up and get online while most other operating systems are left spitting dust. Porteus comes in both 32 & 64 bit and aims to keep on the bleeding edge. You actually "create" your own iso on the download link. It's a menu, choice of 32/64 bit, system type: gui/text, desktop: Razor, Mate, KDE, LXDE, XFCE, Time Zone, Keyboard, Sound Volume, Modules: Web: FireFox/Chrome/Opera, Word Processor: Libre/Abiword, VOIP client: Skype, Drivers: video nVidia/AMD/opensource, Print support, Development Tools. Clicking the download link after choosing your menu items downloads the iso, mine said it was 183 mb but once downloaded and burned, it came in at 197 mb.

EDIT Blew the dual boot. Must go slower next time. This is not like the Ubuntu/Mint dual boot installer. Answered the question wrong......lost a Mint 17 LMDE install.
