Weather Fax in Linux (& Windows too)

Thanks Ador! I'm working my way through the programs loaded on Navigatrix, and found myself a New Linux Project (works in Windows too).
If you’ve got Navigatrix 0.5 loaded, give this a try for yourself and report back. Looks like a great project to keep me/you busy and off of the highway.
Navigatrix comes loaded with a program named “FAX” at the bottom tool bar. This loads a program named JWX version 2.8, which is a Java short-wave weather-fax receiver/converter.
The inventor, P. Lutus’s web site is found here: http://arachnoid.com/JWX/
That link takes you to the JWX page for directions on bringing in the weather to your Toughbook without the internet. Here is the main page for interesting reading:

This is a way to receive weather charts from the national weather service via shortwave radio to your computer. To use JWX, you need:
A computer running either Linux or Windows, with Java installed.
A good-quality shortwave radio, able to tune the range 2 - 25 MHz, with a single-sideband mode.
An audio patch cord to connect the receiver to your computer's sound card line (or microphone) input. That's all — nothing else is needed.
Now to shop for a suitable SW radio (good but inexpensive) to try this out and see for myself.
:salute: What exactly is a left-handed salute? Cheers
