Linux for CF-M33 Pent-MMX 233 MHz?

#1 Post by Springfield »

Have several old CF-M33 mini-Toughbooks with only Pentium 233 MHz and 32 MB memory. These have touchscreens as well as trackballs. One has Win95 loaded and actually running, but doesn't seem very useful. Is there a compact Windows-like Linux that will run on these?

Try Mint 13 Xfce.It should run nicely on those units.

Why not just load Windows 8.1? I mean... After all... It DOES have a touchscreen... :sucks:

I'll try that. Believe the HD is only about 300-400 MB on these , and the ISO file is 800+ MB. Can it load compactly to fit the small HD?

I don't know if there is a version that will fit on a 300-400MB hdd. I took a quick look on the Mint site but didn't see any 'alternative' versions.

Puppy is kinda fun. Downloaded and running it on ram in CF-53.

Terminal is "Console" in Pup.

Puppy is more full featured out of the box. DSL is a very small minimum install being only 50mb. Both can be run only in ram if you have enough of it. You can expand DSL with the DSL-N extension. I am not sure about touchscreen in either. DSL is debian based if I remember right. The maker of DSL rebooted it, but toward the end of 2013 I still didn't see a update unless I over looked it.

I'm working on something else at the moment but while Fujitsu Gobi 2000 is looking for sats, be advised that Puppy has two desktops. We/you want the Xorg one.
More later.
Two things on my deal kinda OT:
1. When using non-Pana Gobi the bios must be re-enabled in bios for WWAN. Installer seems to shut it down.
2. Fujitsu Gobi is stand-alone. IOW don't try to mix and match with Pana CSA etc.

Apologies for the OT.

Jeff...OT is OFF TOPIC... for the glossary... CF-19HGAXAM :)
