Value of CF-29 Mk4

#1 Post by mklym »

There is a local ad for a CF-29LTQGZBM. It comes with 2 batteries, ac adapter, back lit KB installed, looks like restore discs and a vehicle mount that the seller says cost him $1800 new. He wants $500.00 for all. Unit looks to be in good shape. Is that a decent price. Being new to Toughbooks I really have no idea.

Thanks.
CF-29LTQ,CF-31SBM,CF-52youngGUN,

Life's Journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn-out shouting 'Woo Hoo! What a ride!

If the mount is all there then that is worth about $100-$150 , the 29MK4 with no gps $225 - $300 , extra battery $40 . Question is do you need / want the extras.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I would use the extras. The mount would go into my '78 Powerwagon and I usually have at least one spare battery for my laptops.

The killer is that is is not set up for WWAN/GPS. From what I have seen here and on the Panasonic section of NBR it will cost as much, or more, than I will pay for the unit to install WWAN/GPS.

From the figures you posted I see it is priced on the high end of the scale.

I just wish it was WWAN/GPS ready. The 'Z' indicates to me it is not. I really do not have the time to take on another project.

I will have to mull it over. Thanks.

500 will get you a cf-30 mk1 c3 Touch added. 20 shipping conus.
500 nit very bright w/ the new touch panel. ummm 2800 hours...need to check.

from my cf-h1.

Jeff
Above on CF-H1 maybe explains the brevity and lack of a few characters. Need to get that figured out.

To answer your original question:
That is a fair price for you and the seller.
Especially with the extras. Touchscreen working? Fixable if not.
If you can get your hands on it and try it out you escape the ebay lottery....poorly equipped machines and etc.
Look at bios information page and especially pull up a white page on the screen and check for scorch marks in upper right and left.
I have/had CF-29 from 0 to 37,000 hours and they all work fine. The 37,000 is a little loose. Hinges and etc. But it would be nice if it had less than 10,000. End edit:
Second edit: GPS...re:NBR, there is a lot of information there a bit overwhelming. To get your unit on GPS the cheap way at first, use a USBGPS attached to the dock in your truck.

By the way, I have a 20 hour CF-29L that I have a Ohlip style (early in the NBR pages) and the antenna at the WWAN antenna position. Just saying...if you want a 29 w/GPS. I'd go to a 30 if I was you with OEM GPS. Then the WWAN is still available. Lots of possibilities out there.

Forgive the salesman-ship bit. Have you seen the picture of my couch?

Good luck.

Jeff end second edit

Thanks for the reply Jeff.

Yes, I think looking for a CF-30, or better, w/GPS is the way to go. I just do not have time for another project.

I have already informed the seller I will not be buying it.

No problem about the salesmanship. We all have to pay the bills.

Ya, seen it. Wish I had that couch. :) Nice.

Thanks for your input.

All for sale but one. There's a 2500 hour MK2 in the mix also. I'm not done with it yet.
I have Ubuntu 13.04 loaded right now. Trying to sort an ACPI issue out.
To cap it off, I have all marks of CF-29, CF-30 MK1 and 2....various configurations.

One of the neatest little units is the MK-30 C3 with a touch panel added. Very bright with the new screen. I guess they used 500 nit because with the non-touch units there is one less screen layer. The other 30's are 1,000 nit screens. In the daylight I can sort through them. I'm on solar power and I ate too much trifle. Oooofff!

My claim to fame is that I take the chance with ebay and finish the units out. Everything I sell is turn-key operation. No scorched screens, TS works...they come with battery and power supply.

O.K. we'll do it here for now.
CF-29HTLGRBM 9 of 10 cosmetically, GPS is scrolling as we speak, factory restore xp w/updates.
DVDROM, 40GB, GPS is on the sled. IBM Power Supply. Panasonic Blue Tab Battery. NEW Touchscreen panel.
I'll take $400 + actual shipping to Alberta.
This is the one with the Sony GXB5005 gps from a CF-30 on the sled. WWAN disabled therefore. Which gives you the option of adding a GPS antenna in the WWAN antenna corner. Or you could connect the GPS to the passthrough and install an antenna on the roof via the dock. Or both? Ask Teo (Ohlip).
If you prefer a MK4 or 5 this gps will swap over into a wireless ready unit. (means it has rails and connectors for the sled)
Option...option option.
Your move.
