Max RAM for Mk2 & Mk3

Has anyone actually tested the conventional wisdom of the 4GB max for RAM on the Mk2 and Mk3? With a 64 bit processor, I m just wondering if 8GB might actaully work, especially on the Mk3. For quite a while everyone was "sure" that the 29s could only hadle 1.5 GB until Azrial found the 2GB actaully worked on certain models.

I am wanting to say someone on NBR said they were using 8gb ram on there Mk3, I have a Mk2, but don't have the ram to test it out. Since the Mk3 has the Intel 4500 chipset, I have seen several other different laptops with that same chipset have more than 4gb of ram.

This is an interesting old thread. I am now interested in seeing if I can go to 8GB on my Mk2. :D

as per Intel datasheets, the GM965 chipset (afaik that's what's in the Mk2) only supports 4GB.
I'm curios if it works (it wouldn't be the first time the specs are not updated for older stuff), but I wouldn't hold my breath.

good luck :)
