My First One!
If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it…..
So I’ve wanted a Toughbook for a very long time. Cost was always the main issue that got in the way. Luckily the right one found me! The wife and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg and we decided to stop off at the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, AL. They have a large selection of laptops and I always tend to drool a little as I walk by. A Macbook I was considering had just sold and I was about to walk away when the next laptop came out to replace it. A Toughbook CF-30 model #CF-30KAPAQAM with 2,000 hours on it. Touchscreen, emissive keyboard, Bluetooth, etc. As far as I can tell the only things missing are the fingerprint scanner and the GPS. They tend to price by the spec there so a 1.6Ghz with 2Gb of ram was $200! The harddrive was fine, but another $50 picked up a brand new still sealed Pyro 60GB SSD. So why not? I was told it was the first Toughbook they have ever gotten.
It was a good day!
The only issue it had was a missing DC cover and toughasnails hooked me up with that and a pair of D-rings. Don’t know if you guys have any kind of seller reviews, but tougasnails is awesome! Definitely will be ordering from him again!
So I have been using the heck out of it since I got it. I fully believe ALL laptops should come with a handle! I work in the marine industry so I know this thing will come in handy. You guys have a great site here and while this is not my first forum , I’ll do what I can to help out! Thanks!

Some poor beggar in Scottsdale AZ or Scotland is saying "that's where it went". I'm sure they have been compensated. I can visualize the scene though on the day it was lost.
Good show. Welcome to the real Toughbook Forum.

Re: My First One!
I paid ~$430 (equivalent currency) for a (abused) Mk1 w/ WWAN and 7600hrs on it, a used MP battery and new LIND charger.
Put another ~$180 for a used emmissive KB and a new Sirf4 GPS kit, $56 for 4GB RAM, and $30 for new rubber covers.
So starting with a $200 investment for a Mk3/2kHrs/EmKB is a hell of a deal.
Have fun with your new toy, and remember, this is just the beginning ! see Rob's avatar picture above

Re: My First One!
I paid 299 euros for a CF-29 mk3 with Bluetooth, DVD-rw etc... so, a CF-30 for 200 bucks is indeed dirtcheap ! Lucky guy

Re: My First One!
Sorry it took so long to get back. Life and all.......
Still enjoying the hell out of this thing.
Thanks for the welcomes and Oh yea! I COMPLETELY understand the deal I got. Thats why when they pulled it out, I would not even let them put it down. It came out of the back and straight into my hands.
The funny thing is they insisted that it leave in a bag; for protection I guess.
Why anyone would "check" a Toughbook is beyond me. From my cold, dead hands!
(I am in NO way connected with them, I just enjoy going there!)
Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Alabama:
Link--->Unclaimed Baggage Center
A little bit of background. If you leave something on an airplane, a bus, a train, or your luggage is lost in the States, it ends up here. Middle of nowhere Alabama. I know.
But if you are willing to dig you can find some really good stuff there.
I will tell you, it is MUCH closer to a thrift store than to a Wal-Mart. You have to go there with this state of mind.
The wife and I usually make to trip up there about twice a year.
