I was out truck shopping today and was making a 200+mile trip to see one so I figured I would us my 19MK2 with GPS to get me there and back. Guess I should of used my MK1 because with the sun I could not see a damn thing so when I got home I put them side by side. Check out the picture...would you say its the back light going. MK2 is on the left

Several possiblities here. First, I would say the backlight is definitely going. BUT check out the following. First I would go through the entire circuit path from the motherboard to the inverter to the backlight tube. There is a chance of corrosion buildup on some of the pins. Pull each connector starting at the motherboard to the inverter and from the inverter to the backlight. Reinsert the conectors and repeat a few times. Doing this may remove the corrosion. You could also get DeoxIT®/DeoxIT Gold® Spray Twin Pack from Radio Shack to clean the pins. You don't want to soak the motherboard. Please do not do this with power applied nor with the battery installed. Last try swapping out the inverters but only if they are the same type. Do not swap one from a standard backlight with one that is LED.

Well it's not the backlight...just tried the one from the MK1 and no change at all
and I just switched the inverter and still the same.

? any way to check to see how much voltage it is outputting to the screen, maybe under-voltage condition?
