CF-52 MOTHERBOARD REPLACEMENT - MK2 TO MK3

#1 Post by Carlos »

My MK2 suffered a fault due to water. I purchased a motherboard for it and mistakenly got a MK3 MOTHERBARD. Fits perfectly but there is a connector which is different and I don`t know if when I assemble it, it will work or not. Due to my mistake in purchase, shipping it from Colombia is quite expensive and I prefer to make this upgrade (from core 2 duo to I5 Motherboard).

Acquired:

I Have circled in a pic the connector which is different from MK2 motherboard. For what is this connector for? Will this laptop assembly work?

I have to get from Panasonic the fan & heat sync (that didn't come with MOBO and is quite different but fits in laptop) for the MK3 motherboard so I want to see if this mistake comes out with a successful finale before I purchase these.

Thanks very much if you can help.

I got the part number for the missing fan & heatsink MK3 MOBO to see if you`ve got them also:

fan: DFMY9035YA
heatsink: DFMY5053ZA

If I get them will take 2 - 4 weeks back order and that`s being lucky.

Option B, I have is to return I5 MOBO and get it exchanged for a Core 2 Duo 2.4 MOBO.

Great comms!! Many thanks Rob, share same enthusiast about this machines!!

I checked with Larry and he said that we do NOT have those parts unfortunatly. Looks like Heartland is going to be your only option. Of which, I don't think Heatland will ship to you over there in Columbia...

I would place the Heartland order through Blair here on Toughbooktalk. His handle is "toughasnails". I'd send him a message here and ask him if he can get these parts for you.

Thanks

No problem for shipping since I have my freight forward in Miami. So always I give Miami`s address and i take it from there. Now I am still concerned about the MOBO to see if it`ll work or not?

Thanks..

Well getting the parts very fast (no 2 - 4 weeks). They are being shipped today and getting them overnight to Miami but hopefully will have them on Friday with me in Bogota to install MOBO and fire it up. Keep you posted.

I have received the items (fan & heatsync). Assembled the laptop and worked. Have 2 problems which are 1. Sound does n `t work and I believe it is disabled on the motherboard, but came with a passsword. 2. It does n`t charge the battery and what I believe is the missing connector goes with a socket to the Battery (called already to heartland about this). Need help on problem concerning bios password and sound problem. MOBO came from BT company (BRITISH TELECOM logo) personalized bios logo instead of PANASONIC.
