FZ-55 Mk2 USB-C

#1 Post by andrewsim »

I just ordered an FZ-55 Mk2 in mid July and the specs at the time stated that the computer has USB-C port that support USB Power Delivery. Since I ordered the computer Panasonic announced that the USB-C ports would be removed from the FZ-55 moving forward. Are people familiar with the manufacturing style of Panasonic enough to guess whether or not my unit (which should be delivered mid September) will include the USB-C port?

If yes, does anyone have experience charging the FZ-55 using a USB Power Delivery dock and/or power brick?

Thanks in advance!

sorry I didn't open a new thread, I am wondering if the GPU expansion pack should be recognized right away in Windows. or is it anything that needs to be done to see it in device manager? --i can see it in BIOS normally, as the universal bay, with the proper model and serial number. but nothing in device manager

Yes in the MK1, it 100% should show in the BIOS as they have their own serial numbers too! See attached!

There is no official dGPU pack for the MK2 FZ-55 but the Iris GPU that comes with it no matter what rocks even with 1 stick of RAM! It's on-par with the MK1 with the DVD slot GPU. See attached for comparison benchmark tests I've done!

MK1 with ATI DVD slot card - 1377
MK1 with Intel shared - 409

MK2 with Iris GPU - 1059 with 16GB RAM
MK2 with Iris GPU - 1438 with 32GB RAM

As you can see, if you get an MK2 with 32GB RAM it's better than the with the MK1 with the dedicated DVD slot GPU.

And no, you don't *NEED* 2 RAM chips to get Intel Iris like Panasonic says but the performance WILL Be better with 2 sticks.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!
Rob, just so you know, it came with the USB-C Thunderbolt connection. Showed up only 7 days after the estimated delivery date.

Is there any recent Model # breakdown for most recent Toughbook models, like 7th gen and up let's say?
