Does anybody know why Panasonic modified the rear case with a new cover?

Because that's where the insertable SCR or RFID or UHF RFID reader would go if that G1 had it.

So they use more screws to attach the smartcard reader, don't they?

And the fact that the G1 Mk4 has a M.2 SSD instead of mSATA.

My Mk4 had a Toshiba 128GB SSD, not sure of exact model.
