Hi all,
I've been on of those lurkers here for about a year and a half. Picked up some great tips, tricks etc. Much appreciated.
I have a friend that sent me his newly acquired CF-18NCQZXVM that has had the hard drive changed out and the restore partition lost. Someone reloaded it with WIN XP Pro PC. Consequently the digitizer & stylus do not work, and some of the front edge tablet buttons do not function. Can anyone point me in the right direction to add the Tablet Edition functions to this machine? I understand there is some way that is possible. If I can get that accomplished I can get him a new digitizer stylus and he would be set, the one that came with it is missing the button.

Cheers,

I found this link that might help. This process only works with a Tablet version activation key as I understand. From the model number given, the factory attached Windows key on the bottom of the case should be what they need if it is still there.

Here is some info with someone with simular problem. Before I had a copy of tablet xp I remembered I had to mix and match drivers, but the Pen driver came from the Wacom site.

Thank you, Gents, very much. I will check out those avenues.
I was thinking the OS was already SP2, but I'll confirm that for sure this evening. After that I'll go thru the NBR thread. Wow! Lots of info there.
I have also found there is a good possibility of getting the restore image for this one thru Panasonic for $35.

Thanks again, maybe I'll get this whipped!

Restore discs are usually the best route. As you have already discovered, unusual issues can creep in with a custom install on these Panasonics. I am a notorious cheapskate and I would spend the $35. If not, any of the options provided can get you running, albeit with an investment of time instead of money. :)

Amen!

Precisely why I'm am lining up my avenues........ then I can pick and choose! Then again, I'm not one to shy away from a challenge, either.

Cheers,
Steve

You will not find the restore disk at Heartland. I tried a few years ago and they do not stock the disk for the older models

Where are you at? I think I still may have that restore disk (5 disk set), If I haven't sold it already. I will have to look since I don' t have any 18's any more. I use to use a XP tablet edition from a motioncomputing LE1600. Theirs are a two disk set, with the drivers for the motion computing on the second disk. I just didn't use the second disk. Then used drivers from Panasonic.

Just to report....

I came across a corporate WinXP Tablet Edition 2005 .iso. Installed that, loaded all the TB drivers for CF-18 Tablet, manually installed Panasonic pen and Wacom drivers and digitizer now works. It properly follows the stylus now, but the tap and button functions don't work because the button is missing. I have ordered a new stylus, and when it gets here I'll find out if that's the end of it.

Thanks for all the pointers, fellas!
