HDD Caddy Question

#1 Post by phido »

I purchased a replacement hdd caddy and hdd in order to swap
drives on my CF 18 Mk5 but the new caddy and connector didn't have the little
jumper plug with the red and black wires. Being a NUBE I have no idea what this is
and if I need it where can I get one? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Jim

Sounds like aftermarket.

Jumper plug is for the heater. This is a wrap around gizmo (tech word) found on OEM caddies.

I have had fair luck with aftermarket. Some of the early ones didn't line up and engage every time. (CF-29)

Does your plug have two long pins alongside the connector? These are the line up gizmos.

I have some heaters for CF-29...don't know if mix and match. Ask me later...things to do...:)

Heaters keep the drive warm in severe weather.

One point...If this was sold as OEM you may be able to argue w/ the seller...

Hi Jeff
Thanks for the quick reply, that's cool or should I say warm. Since I doubt it will see any sever cold
will it be ok to run without it? And yes it has the lineup pins

Tnx Jim

Plug it in with all power pulled and see how it feels. If it feels good go with it, plug in AC first then if that's good rock on. :)
Battery is handled a bit by acpi. Gives the machine time to sort it out.
If the drive is recognized by bios you should be good to go...with a nagging feeling every time you turn it on.
Some folks won't use any aftermarket but I have done o.k. most of the time. It's cheaply made that's why it's cheaper.

Good luck. Let us know.

Well another lesson learned, the aftermarket caddy was a piece of junk

This time I'll look for an OEM complete caddy
