Yep, everything pointed to Touchscreen, the CF-18 FAQ has a good section on the screen, and physically everthing matched (Stylus slot size, Serial port, XP COA sticker).

However I asked Panasonic Australia for a spec sheet, they put me onto the company who deal with support (they obviously farm it out) and they sent me the attached spec sheet.

So I was confused (the Spec sheet said Digitizer), the screen did respond to the stylus (it does need calibration) and initially I could only get response from my fingernail, but now it responds (kind of) to my fingertip. I will try and decide if it's working properly when I get the Panasonic drivers installed.

If the pen is solid black with white tip it's only plastic, nothing in it. If it's grey pen it's a digitizer pen.

Definitely plastic like the first pic.

So it's a Touchscreen.

Had devices before with a touchscreen (i.e. an ipaq) and they were much more sensitive that this one (I have to press quite hard with my finger tip to get a reaction), maybe I have a fault, won't really know till its got everything installed from scratch and the screens been calibrated.

Why not install a different flavor from the beginning ? - Xubuntu (XFCE), Kubuntu (KDE), Lubuntu (LXDE).

I have not opened the back but all checks in Windows (including installing the Bluetooth switch driver,) and Linux fail to pick up Bluetooth, so I'm pretty sure that I don't have the board installed.

I'm going to get an OEM bluetooth board so that I can easily control it and there won't (?) be any compatability issues.

I have the factory daughterboard (for GPS), I've done some searching but been unable to find anything specifically relating to installing the OEM Bluetooth board.

My question is do I just need the board, or do I need a ribbon cable as well? (don't want only half of the parts to arrive in the mail and be disappointed.)

You need the daughterboard to install GPS, bluetooth or WWAN. If you system never came with it it doesn't come with the board. But since your system came with a accessory that need the board it you have all that you need. You will need two screws, bluetooth module and connecting ribbon to install the factory style bluetooth.
