It never seems to stop..........

#1 Post by Rob »

The 3TB NAS that I bought for server backups and installed on 2/8/14 has failed and needs to be replaced..... Of course it's NOT under the cheesy 1 year warranty. I will NOT be buying another buffalo!!!

This is what I'm going to buy:

Combined with 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 4UM3102206

Total cost: $235 :(

Lately just about everyone I know with 2tb and 3tb 2.5" external drives have had problem with them. I have had 3 2tb drives go out myself in the last few years.

Synology seems to be NAS of choice from my research..I got a great deal on a used Synology DS209.

I got drives from here..I got White label but they are WD enterprise grade..

Here is the current 2 drive Synology model. Diskless means a lot because all of the software and OS is stored in firmware then written to the HDD when you install them.

I use a couple of these for storage on my home net. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LaCie-2big-Quad ... 1776117181 . Work real good, and are functionally compatible with same power supplies used for my cf-30's. I can check the closet and see if I have any spares left if you like?

:pat: gettin old, had to edit in the link.

As long as the deal is good for you it is good for me.

This is what I'm going to get. I'm done with network backups for now!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

Can anyone spare $5 - $10 for this backup drive? I hate asking for $$$ but this is getting silly. I'm hoping that these USB drives will be more reliable than the stupid expensive NAS's have been. Also 5TB secures us forEVER on this server! ATT also raised my bill to $80/month now. Yes, STILL WAY CHEAPER THAN COMCAST WAS and so far so good on the reliability factor.

Thanks!
