29 Touchscreen working until I installed a EnGenius EMP-8602

#1 Post by toughasnails »

I just did a restore on my CF-29 MK5. No problems at all, did all the updates and then installed the EnGenius EMP-8602+S and lost the touchscreen. Has this happened to anyone else. It's enable in the BIOS and it shows as a touchscreen but nothing.

Maybe....I've been having a bit of trouble too. Did you set bios to defaults? Did you have to open the hatch under the keyboard? You know all this stuff. This is weird.

EDIT: Someplace I read where you need to unplug the wireless, load the drivers and then plug it back in. Have you seen that? Did the Touch work after the fresh install and before the wireless switch?

Yeap, set the bios to defaults. I even pulled the card back out and still does not work. I am going to do another restore and leave the intel card in for a while just to see what happens. i have had the EnGenius card in this 29 for almost a year and never had a problem. I took it out a while ago and put it in my daughters 29. when I gave her the 51 for christmas she gave it back so I took the card back out . So next weekend I will have to give it another shot and see whats up with it.

I removed the two small screws on the backside next to where port replicator hooks up, the ext antenna connector? to make room to get all the wifi and BT antenna wires out, the ones with the UFla connectors in the slot that it goes thru to connect the lcd connectors CN9 and CN9 to the MB. not to put too much pressure on the slimmest (CN9) on as it might snap(ask me how I know) in two. but just the same it still plugged into the MB and worked. pushing the external antenna PCB to the side so you got a little more working room as to not man handle the lcd harness connectors and antenna and BT wires out. hope this helps,,........Driller aka brady

If all else fails.....I just finished installing a brammy new touchscreen element form techtuff (techtough). My it works nice. It comes with protective film on both sides. I cleaned the LCD and pulled the inner film. Left the outer film on until I get a screen protector. The flat cable has copper elements I believe are better than the pana ones.

More later.

Blair, throwing in a wild card here... don't suppose it has anything to do with IRQs and DMA issues. You know, the kind of stuffs that used to plague Win95.

How did you install the Engenius? I would have removed the old Intel, boot to OS (check touch screen). Install the drivers, boot (check TS). Install Engenius, boot (check TS).

XP is stable but still has PMS when it wants to.

Have fun :P

I am going to pull the card and do another restore just to see what happens. I had another touch screen but my grand daughter had a birthday this week and all she wanted was a toughbook with a finger screen :P like her grandpa so she got my spare.....to see her face when she opened it was priceless. Anyways if the restore does not work I will pull the one out of the MK3 and try it. Will let you know what happens.
