You definitely have a touch model from

Code: Select all

lsusb
.
That doesn't mean it works...the panel is probably de-laminated. Ultra common problem through CF=30MK1.

The built-in Serial port should show up as TTYS0.

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep ttyS
[ 1.720094] 00:07: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A
[ 1.742297] 0000:00:16.3: ttyS4 at I/O 0xe0e0 (irq = 19, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A
This computer must have a smart card reader...

I missed the part about your USB-Serial cable in your first post. Is it PNP?

Take a look at cutecom (synaptic package manager)

Prolific is built into the kernel.
Linux Kernel 2.4.31 and above already includes built-in drivers for PL-2303 (VID_067B&PID_2303).
NOTE: Google Android OS is also based on Linux kernel so it also includes PL2303 drivers.

Code: Select all

lspci | grep Serial
00:16.3 Serial controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family KT Controller (rev 04)

Code: Select all

sudo lshw
Should give the system board number. Paper labels are easy to print wrong.

Results here are from a CF-53 non-touch FWIW.

So....can you connect your device to the Toughbook serial port?
Fair for you/ Fair for me.

OK.. apparently the printed label is wrong. lshw reports that the model of this one is CF-29LQQGCBM.

Without the PL-2303 plugged in, a grep on the dmesg for [serial] returns:

Code: Select all

Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 4 ports, IRQ sharing enabled
serial 0000:00:1e.3: PCI INT B -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
serial 0000:00:1e.3: PCI INT B disabled
although a grep for [tty] (case-insensitive) only returns:

Code: Select all

console [tty0] enabled
Yeah, I have tried using both the PL adapter as well as the on-board, built-in serial port. I can't get the OS to recognize the built-in port and using the PL adapter, the software doesn't recognize the Palm. I did get the Palm to work with another computer, though, so I know that the trouble is not with either the handheld or the serial cable.

As to the touchscreen, yeah. I already knew it was TT-enabled. I had that working for a bit, but there seems to be a bad connection on the digitizer - or maybe a delaminated panel like you said.

Weather has been kickin' my butt. A slide closed the road for two days. No mail etc.

So if I send you a 29L (XP) you can check it?......I have about five or so.

FYI I use case sensitive......or -i.

Code: Select all

ttys0 -i #for instance
?
-i, --ignore-case
Ignore case distinctions in both the PATTERN and the input
files.

Yeah, I can check that.

Code: Select all

although a grep for [tty] (case-insensitive) only returns:
I did do an ignore-case... no results other than console.

Wow (weather)... where are you at? It's 70 degrees here in Bama! lol

ttyS0 # the S is Serial, S0 always?the built in Com port. #is to separate the code from the description. Terminal ignores anything after #.

This one.

Sunny California 3200 foot elevation. 7.07 inches of rain over two days, 3 inches of snow yesterday, beautiful most of today.

I'll try to find a L model in the a.m.

For the 117 viewers...I sent a CF-29N3 to rebeltaz. I thought it shipped Monday but since I don't DO holidays...nor week-ends I noticed the flag was down today on the mail box....so would think we will get a report after Thursday. I had no idea it was Monday and a holiday yesterday until the flag was up after evening chores yesterday evening.

Spent today on a "Classic" 1260 hour CF-29. NTQGZBM...replaced TS with used but good "new style" panel. Runs on W7 Ultimate. Scrapped a 29E in the process.....bad lower half...customer return.

Does anyone need a CF-29E for parts only? It might have only been the ram. 256MB on board seems to work.

What a weird set of paragraphs. :pat:
