Got a CF-29NAQGXBM, no HDD, Caddy. Installed SATA III 120 Gb SSD, Installed XP with Panasonic recovery discs for MK5, installed SP3. Everything seems to work except touchpad and touchscreen. Using external mouse now. Checked BIOS and both are enabled, driver seems to be current. Function keys work.

Driver date 4/14/2005 version 2.2.4.2004

You did power pull reset and set bios to defaults? Then re-booted twice? WITH usb mouse un-plugged.

Does device manager show PS/2 Mouse for touchpad? I wonder if someone un-plugged the touchpad.

Touchscreen probably de-laminated.... fix that later.

A Linux stick can help with diagnosis. Especially for me. :salute:

I will do the power pull reset and set bios to default as soon as it is done with this episode of updates.

In device manager under "mice and other pointing devices"

HID-compliant mouse location: 0
touchpad/touchscreen location: plugged into PS/2 mouse port

I found you a parts beast or two. (or six) You can see where the touchpad cable comes through the metal then folds and goes on top of the pcb. Basically hidden from view..take that back..You know you may be able to look in the battery door using mobo flick as reference.

The one with the bad mobo has a pretty good looking touchpad. Has more stuff with it. Two for price of one.... pay the shipping. :D

Hopefully we can fix yours without repair being necessary. You may have to pull yours apart to check the cable.

I was looking for my CF-29XP caddy and stumbled on these. Almost literally.

Ok, did power pull reset and reset bios to default, rebooted twice without usb mouse, no help.
Here's a couple pics of inside. Not sure what I'm looking at but similar to your pics Jeff.

Image 003 the cable in under the battery connection. To see clearly pull the black cage and peek under the horizonal white cable. Where the cable comes up is under the black cage.
If you understand it that silver piece is fairly simple to remove. I always pulled the big screw then lifted on the mobo to identify the screws holding the mobo down. Just the ones near the hdd cage. There is one screw under the ram. (Some hold bits on to the mobo and some hold it down)

The silver bit is socketed upward into the mobo. Re-install is line the socket up and press down while installing the screw in the mobo which tightens the connection. Reverse osmosis not a technical manual in sight.

Stuff to do here. If you get hung up give me a call later.

EDIT What's that black tape covering up....someone has been in there. END EDIT

The black tape is covering a small four wire lead that goes to a white plug on the corner of the ram. I removed the tape, not sure why it was there, but no damage.

I checked eBay to see a picture of the touchpad, and have been studying your pics against mine and I see what I need to do, just trying to fit it in. Busy at work and this can't be a home project.

edit - Just got some things moved around and checked some connections, can't find anything loose or damaged, now what - end edit

more edit - also thinking of returning - end more edit

Where is your CMOS battery? Seems like it should be plugged into the white plug near SW corner of ram. Battery is below board midway of the ram, stuck to mobo with sticky tape. Bright yellow.

When I say below I mean as seen in photo.

Returning is not a bad idea.

I'm suspicious of some ssd converters. Can't see how it would affect touch-pad though.

Is that a 1024 ddr-2 stick of Crucial? Can't read it from here.

The CMOS battery is under mobo, speaker plugs in by corner of ram.

I got the ssd converter from ebay, the one shawn suggested.

Yes that is a new 1gb ddr-2 stick

Checking on return, if not we'll see. works great except for touchpad and touch screen, I can live without touchscreen, but I'd really like touchpad to work. if not usb mouse works.

Duh on my part. Of course it does.

The one I was peering into doesn't have the cage installed. Threw me off my stride.

So did you check both ends of the white cable feeding the PCB? The one that travels under the black cage....
