CF-29 screen replacement

#1 Post by n4wwl »

I have a CF-29 mk1 with a 12.1" transflective touchscreen. Is it possible to replace this with a 13.3" touchscreen? The larger screen offers higher resolution.

Panasonic confirms the CF-29 models came with both 12.1" and 13.3" touchsceens. Since some of my apps require the higher 1024x768 resolution of a 13.3" screen instead of the 800x600 resolution of my 12.1" transflective screen, I'm thinking about having the screen replaced.

Does anyone know 1) if this is possible; 2) who could perform such an operation; and 3) how much it would cost (approximately)?

Thanks!

If it can be done,it's easy. Best way is just replace the entire top half. Now having said that,it depends on hardware compatability.

Will the harness plug in and will the gpu run the 13.3 screen. I don't know.

I tried a similar swap on CF-28 (older model, NOT same as CF-29) from 800x600 to 1024x768. The plug fit but there was a jumper on the mobo. The display did not automatically resize bigger, matched the upper left corner and left dark strips on the right and bottom. No BIOS setting for display size, tried the mobo jumper but surprisingly no joy.

Send it to me and I'll do it. Do you need a replacement while yours is in the shop? I have two very nice MK1....OEM GPS WWAN 13.3.
I know I have done it 'cause there's a 12.1" top half on my shelf.

$50 if touchscreen is good or fixable. (I have the parts) $125 if it needs a new touch panel. (new style)

Or buy one or more of my MK 1 @ 150.+shipping and use your components.
Fair for you/ Fair for me.

Easier to double post.

When buying an upper half the thing I ran into was screen burns. Bought a box of ten one time and four or more had burns. The mark ones usually don't have it in my experience for what that is worth.

I pulled a mark one out and messed with it.

Thanks. I appreciate the replies. I also have a CF-30 with the higher screen resolution, so there's no urgency to replacing my CF-29 screen. Panasonic tells me the CF-29 12.1" monitor I have is SVGA and the 13.3" one is XGA, which allows the higher resolution.

My CF-29 also runs XP, which I'd like to replace with either Win 7 or 8. But when I ran the Windows Upgrade Advisor it indicated that some of the internal drivers were incompatible with the later versions of Windows and that the Intel does not have an upgraded 85852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller for Win 7 or 8. So I may have to live with XP rather than mess up by beloved CF-29...

I'll let you know if I decide to get brave and send it out for a screen and/or OS upgrade.

Thanks.

No problem. I don't always check back where I posted and today dumped my entire PM storage.....it was as 94% full.

Anyhoo if you need anything PM please. There's lots of room now. :)
