OK, got EVERYTHING panasonic related to the CF29 mk 1 working except the last flagged driver in device manager, which is the video driver, and the display driver is still standard vga. So, do I use method 1 http://www.adepttech.com/blog/?p=17 OR:
method 2 http://forum.notebookreview.com/panason ... 8-mk1.html

One method actually takes ownership of the driver files and forces the 82855 driver to be accepted by windows 7, the other uses a 945GM driver and Disables integrity checks. Is the 945GM driver method used for the CF18 to get screen rotation? Thus it would not apply to the CF 29 mk1? Before I go monkeying around with modifying the registry and taking ownership of files etc. I'd like to know which is the better method, or which has better application to the CF 29.

BTW, I found the thread and postings in Notebook review on the CF18 install of windows 7 to be very helpful.. That is what enabled me to get all of the panasonic specific stuff working on the 29 mk1.

On that tweaker on the next to the last tab on the left hand side there are check box where you can add take ownership to your right click list when you right click something. Very easy way to do it.

YEAH, All is right with the world, expect for the hour of the night, or should I say morning. It is 1:37AM and I just finished the final install of all components of windows 7 on a 29mk1. No flagged drivers, 2 copies of the display adapter running (the intel 82855). All panasonic drivers installed and running, sound, touchscreen, etc. etc. THANK YOU to all who gave me advice. It IS possible to run windows 7 on a Toughbook CF29 mk1. Pretty much followed most of the advice in the install for the CF 18 mk 1, (see link above), including the strange instructions for installing and then disabling the 945GM driver, but hey, it works. Here are the final windows experience scores, before windows 7 tweaking.

Processor 2.2
Ram 3.3
Graphics 1.9
Gaming 1.0 (no big deal for me, never play games)
Hard Disk 4.4

Seems to run as fast or maybe even a bit faster than XP did, so I am happy. Again all, thanks for the advice.

I have been real happy with all my tweaked loads of windows 7, I rarely load windows xp anymore but keep my disks for them.

gosh did you scroll down a few threads where there are detailed instructions for installing Windows 7 on a CF-29?

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1290

works fine on a MK1 but only one USB port on that version

1.5GB RAM highly recommended for any Win 7 installations. not sure the MK1 can go 1.5 though

Thanks for the info on the previous thread on windows 7 install on a CF-29. Tried that set of instructions before I posted a question on the mk1. In fact it was the first one I tried. Evidently that set of instructions is for a later model CF-29???? I spent nearly 8 hours trying to make it work on a mk1 model to no avail. The suggestion to use some of the vista up drivers was helpful and worked for the mk1, but I had problems loading the 82855GM display driver. Kept reverting back to the generic Standard VGA driver. The set of instructions I picked up for a CF18 are actually a better fit for the CF-29 mk 1 because as I understand it, the hardware is nearly identical except for the digitizer. The other instructions referenced above on the Adaptech blogsite also did not work with the mk1. Maybe I read a line wrong or didn't follow something exactly as posted, just didn't work, and I really tried to make it happen.

Yes, this 29mk has 1.5G Ram, maxed out though. Can't add anymore.

Pretty sure I ended up with generic drivers too. No Aero with those, but otherwise seems to work OK. I have it on a mk1 too. One USB port and 1.25 GB RAM I think.

I found that once I had BOTH 82855 drivers installed, that video playback was faster.

I'm finally giving up my 29H to my brother-in-arms. This means I am giving up the techtoughed-up SATA bay with 240GB SSD drive and installing Win7 on it (goodbye trusty 'ole custom Debian Linux). I ran into trouble with the Intel 82855 but after a combination of screwing around with vgapnp.sys files and the shuffling of GM945 drivers, I managed to get the thing rocking without a single exclamation in the driver list.

I just need to get the touchscreen working now. Even with the touchpad/touchscreen drivers installed, it ain't making it.

You might try a Linux live CD just to make sure the touchscreen hardware is still working.
