Possible intermittent short on the mobo?

Hey guys! Hope you all have been well.
I'll get right to it:
CF29CWKGZDM

I've done a few mods to my baby, and everything was running great! Reinstalled windows several times (regular maintenance) and what not, and never really ad and unidentified problem, until recently.

I had installed an Enginous EM8206+ which worked swimmingly for over a year. At some point I had wifi connectivity problems, cracked the case open, and found the RF shield had come off the 8206.
I wasn't sure what had actually received damage, so tried the card, had problems still, soldered the cover back on the card, reinstalled, and still had issues (ray charles could have hit the ground pads/shield, I know it wasn't my soldering). The only other card I had laying around was a 2100 and I want to say I pulled it from another 29 that had malfunctioning wifi/upgraded to an 8206.

My wifi is still malfunctioning with the 2100 or 8206, XP, SP2, and SP3. It intermittently disconnects and the wifi process will lock up. I even got a bsod the other day. It's a real bummer.

Any suggestions?
I'm going to scout around for another cheap deal on another card to try while I'm in San Diego this week.

TIA!

The 2100 wifi card is troublesome, and the PROSet version that came with it is really troublesome. Be sure you have upgraded PROSet to at least the 2200 version and even then don't expect the 2100 card to connect reliably.

I'd suggest removing all wifi drivers and hardware, boot with no wifi card, then shut down and re-install the EnGenius card and install only that driver.

Eh...Do you think it's drivers screwing things up? I unistalled the proset and am using xp sp3 drivers with the 2100 right now (having problems). I also had assumed the 8206 was shorted/toasted from the rf cover.

I'll try the 2200 drivers with this card and see how it goes. LOL, I don't know where the hell i put the 8206!

Anyone got a good card collecting dust somewhere?

OH,
It really likes to poop when I have heavy traffic going, streaming video and surfing the net. It's been fine wile i've been on just my boards, but if I fired up facebook and youtube, it would disconnect. I just thought it worth mentioning.

is that your item/account, Springfield? I already messaged that dude about UPSing it to where I am, instead of my house usps.

I was shocked at the prices of those cards now, but not really considering the age of that level of tech....

No I do not know that seller and cannot vouch for them in any way. Just trying to help you get an idea where to get a good card at a good price.

Concerning parts, I have a pristine 29Mark 1 other than the crack in the lid. In fact I have run it on Mint 16, unit has WWAN and OEM GPS. VERY affordable if I ship it with no caddy nor battery. $125 WITH empty caddy and blue tab battery. FWIW.

edit: I forgot...these have rubber BLKB.

The uncracked ones are $175 empty caddy and with battery. Total of three of these. (battery as-is):un-edit

Thanks,

Jeff

This is a great way to score a spare caddy & battery, and get a back lit keyboard and working CF-29 with GPS!
I highly recommend this seller :salute:
