I got the download burned the cd. Wow what an awesome array of utilities and programs But the BIOS ones did not work. The problem is that the passwords they give you are too long for the most part. There are only seven character to input.

I found their is a lot of good programs on it and was going to try it but my cd-rom pack is not bootable at the moment.I was going to put a password in and try some of the things you did to see what went wrong but it would mean for me to swap out the burner and at the moment I have no time too :( but maybe this weekend

Did you try this one
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/CmosPwd
This one should be on the Hiren Boot CD .
CmosPwd
From CGSecurity
CmosPwd decrypts password stored in cmos used to access BIOS SETUP.
Works with the following BIOSes

ACER/IBM BIOS
AMI BIOS
AMI WinBIOS 2.5
Award 4.5x/4.6x/6.0
Compaq (1992)
Compaq (New version)
IBM (PS/2, Activa, Thinkpad)
Packard Bell
Phoenix 1.00.09.AC0 (1994), a486 1.03, 1.04, 1.10 A03, 4.05 rev 1.02.943, 4.06 rev 1.13.1107
Phoenix 4 release 6 (User)
Gateway Solo - Phoenix 4.0 release 6
Toshiba
Zenith AMI
With CmosPwd, you can also backup, restore and erase/kill cmos.

AWARD 4.50 have a backdoor, a generic password : AWARD_SW SOYO motherboard have "SY_MB" as master password for Award 4.51. CmosPwd give equivalent passwords for Award BIOS, not original one. For more information, ReadMe

OK try this,,,,,
Remove the main battery.
Unplug the bios battery.
Connect the power supply, turn on the computer, wait till it boots and then pull the power supply plug and let it die,,,,,
I normally do this about 3 0r 4 times.
Plug back in the bios battery and the main battery and access the bios.
This has always worked for me on CF-27, CF-28, CF-29.

I went through about 120 29s mk2 and mk4 and did what Alex does cept I hold the power button for about 10 seconds with all other power cut off. Then boot and open bios and save and shut down reconnect and you should be good to go. (btw you can get to the bio battery through the hard drive compartment, if you have a steady hand and a tiny flat head screwdriver you can save yourself alot of time. don't poke around in there with the battery or ac plugged in though)
