Can I replace my internal pro wireless card in my CF-29E MK1

#1 Post by toughasnails »

Just wondering if we use the Atheros based cards in them as we did on the CF-28 mod.I used a Gigabyte GN-W103N (mini) PCI WLAN Card off of a ebay seller. I use my CF-28 only for a back-up now so I was going to pull the card and put it in the CF-29 if I can?? Just looking for some info.

Sure can. I put the EnGenius 600mw cards in both my 29 and my 18.

urm... does the 600mWatter suck the daylight out of the batt. I suppose you're using the external RP-SMA antennae as well?

Battery life does not seem to be adversely effected. The WiFi spec gives a station information on the Received Signal Strength at the far end of the link, and using this, the station will reduce output power automatically to use the least necessary to maintain a solid connection. This means that the full 600mw isn't really used unless it's actually needed.

I run an external antenna on the 29 using a Gamber docking station, which brings the antenna out to a TNC Jack. This goes to a mag mount antenna on the roof. I haven't come up with an external antenna solution for my 18 yet, but for my uses, I've been quite happy with the internal ones
