after about 130 to 150 attempts, I think I can safely assume that I'm barking up the wrong tree with FWUpdLcl64.exe.

I think I need to look into flashrom, maybe using an external programmer.
I'm pretty confident that I can unbrick most damage that I could do with an external programmer.
I am not very confident that I can unbrick any damaged caused by weakend seals....aka my ability to put the 19mk6 back into a ip65 kind of state.

hmmm ... so maybe flashrom with internal programmer and hoping really really hard that it a) works on first try or b) crashes in a way that allows me 30min fixup sessions till ME watchdog powers me off.
tough book, tough decissions

Buy a board for about 100€ on eBay and experiment with that instead: http://www.ebay.com/itm/332346147705

awesome idea! that's - quite literally - thinking out-of-the-box.
i would, of course also need ram and psu ... would I also need additional daughterboards for vga&usb?

EDIT: I just realized that shawn probably intended to give me the same advice, but I just didn't "get it" back then ;-)

RAM isn't expensive for small (2GB?) modules, PSU? ThinkPad T2x/T4x series adapter, 16V 4.5 amps, works fine with my 31.

Idk about daughterboards though.

hmm, starts to look like I actually indeed do need to open the case ... either for mb swap or for external programmer.

pretty much what I found while trying to flash main BIOS.
Something is write protected.
Custom flashes won't work without a programmer.

just watched this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aedeLJfvT9Y
he makes it look so easy

I have received 3years training in an electrical engineering ... and altough that was 15 years ago,
I still have a pretty good idea about how much I suck at about any task that requires a sure hand and the correct amount of torque or pressure on the right pieces of equipment ;-)
