Fixed.

Sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=" #add acpi_osi= here
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

After saving run sudo update-grub #writes it to boot menu......that is acpi underscore osi = between the quotes.

ZORIN 12 is a "diamond in the rough" as someone posted somewhere. I did have two crashes...minor I guess, it's still running.

BUT for the editing I just did it's the fastest thing on no feet I have seen. And this after <48 hours on the beast.

For linux folks:

Code: Select all

uname -a Linux ***-CF-53JULA21M 4.4.0-62-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 18 14:10:15 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Installed from Zorin 12 Core iso.....from a USB stick.
Then ran All the upgrades.

I'm going back to the CF-31 to see if I can sort the sound issue. Maybe it was in the upgrades/updates.....

All other x86 units work. CF-MK2 and up.....oh and this distro comes with Wacom pre-installed for you dual-touch people. Someone give it a try on a dual touch CF-19. :)
Fair for you/ Fair for me.

I am really getting impressed with Zorin from your review.
They really did some major work compared to versions 10 and 11.
I need to load it on something. Maybe my internet browser machine, the CF 53 non touch.

I can try this drive in Alice....CF-53AA first if you want.

I got Gobi GPS fired up last night. :)

IMPORTANT FOR ALL? LINUX DISTROS RUNNING SYSTEMD:

A paraphrase...machine starts and systemd grabs all input devices.....and hangs on to them.

When gobi-loader starts somewhat later the ttyUSB devices are not available. FAIL.

THE FIX:VERIFIED ON CF-53MK2 ONLY....<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

RUN systemctl stop gpsd.socket

RUN echo "\$GPS_START" > /dev/ttyUSB1 # starts Gobi....done once per session.

No. Here's the details....PrtSc (next to NumLK key) used to run print screen.....auto saves after a camera click sound to /Pictures.

I found it on my stick of unremembered little programs.

USAPhotomaps is working. It's a shame that M$ dropped map support.

Resized with "Mirage".

To add "Mirage" to Zorin, [Superkey] type mirage answer yes.

Zorin will need to wait a couple days for me. I am currently nose deep in reinstalling OSX on my 52GUN.
Then an android test for Rob.

I really do need a dedicated Linux//Zorin machine. Running 3 different OS's with different partition tables//formats is getting tiresome.
I have my usb sticks so confused they are having identity crisis's
Win can't read Linux or Mac. Mac reads some Win but can't read Linux. Linux reads them all.

Spent today fighting Elementary OS. After way too many hours attempting to get the basics working, I gave up and did a HDD install of Zorin 12.
Very nice. Easy to install and EVERYTHING is included on the iso. Even a maps program. No routing that I could figure out, but a nice map program.
I did have to do a sudo su to create the touchscreen config file.
