CF-29 Mk2 distro suggestions

#1 Post by Rich »

Ok, what is a good distro for my CF-29 Mk2, non PAE. I had LMDE 2 and I liked security, and long term support and ease of updating, but I can't get mouse speed up to acceptable levels unless I run "xset m 8 1" in terminal every time I boot. Tried the psmouse.conf trick too, but doesn't help. So I am now running Slacko Puppy 6.3.0 and mouse was easy, ran "xset m 8 1" once in the terminal and it works every time now. Update package is not as nice as any of the Mint distros I've tried, and no password protection.

So, me being very new to Linux, I'm looking for non PAE, easily update-able and long term support.

Mint 18 32 Bit has a non-pae/force pae setting.

Need to find my plop linux to try it.....in your case install on a MK4 or 5 and run in MK2 or anything.

Let me see if I can stuff it in a mk 2.

MK2 doesn't boot from USB in case anyone is wondering.
Fair for you/ Fair for me.

I'm on MK2 right now. PlopLinux on Floppy Drive, Mint 18 32 bit force pae LiveUSB. This is a USB that I first ran in a CF-31......it remembers most everything. This https://www.osdisc.com/products/linuxmi ... 32bit.html.
Note persistence.
It just works.
Heh! Touchscreen works.
Checking ............I may have tweaked etc/default/grub for touchpad in CF-31.
1. Set to defaults.
2. Ploplinux in floppy
3. USB inserted.

Start
Select USB
TAB
Select force PAE

Installing dual boot with XP on 40GB drive. XP stays offline...I use it for some GPS stuff although .wine has just about taken over. I could use it for streets and trips I reckon if I took trips and had any streets.

It would be done except for the language packs and my slow connection speed.

Then we will try it in MK4 and 5.

Left 31 at work downloading, burn to DVD in morning. Put hdd from Mk5 (mint 17.3) in Mk2, worked great but no wifi, was showing Mk5 host info and I didn't want to mess with it. Mouse was very perky, just the way I like it.

In Users and Groups you want to be admin.

In advanced make sure you have wireless checked.

proto=imps killed my touchscreen ..too hard to think about why? this early.

this fixed it:

jay@jay-CF-29ETKGZKM ~ $ sudo modprobe -r psmouse #careful -r means remove
[sudo] password for jay:
jay@jay-CF-29ETKGZKM ~ $ sudo modprobe psmouse proto=any
jay@jay-CF-29ETKGZKM ~ $ xset m 8 1

heh! xset made it double speed. Just started messing with it. 2200 card (wireless) was first.

Next I'll be checking to see if psmouse.conf is blacklisted.
Fair for you/ Fair for me.
