NAVIT AND LINUX

#1 Post by SHEEPMAN! »

Thanks Cleve (Grandpa).

If you all don't mind let's keep to the Subject. IOW [Linux forum][NAVIT]......too much time jumping around. What I mean is put it in the right place. I'm not complaining just doing housework.

GPS and Linux is confusing enough already.

For instance:
I found a distro that would run USAPhotomaps out of the box and M$ closed the map repository. Little did they know I already OWNED the county. (7 1/2 minute USGS Topos)on a 8Gb stick. But it only works for me.

If you'all have time and you have Navit posts...please cut and paste here. Please. :)

Open Map Chest would be another (Subject:)

OT already.

POST NAVIT RELATED ITEMS HERE. :D Please......dual post if necessary.....or add a link.
Fair for you/ Fair for me.
I chose to NOT be organized.

Aaaah, but I live to dink. :booty:

My post in the other thread should explain things. If you're willing to put in the effort, I'll gladly help.

Start by downloading a map file for your desired region, naming it osm.bin then placing it exactly here:
/usr/share/navit/maps/osm.bin (create the "maps" directory if necessary")

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir /usr/share/navit/maps
Replace your
/etc/navit/navit.xml
with the file attachment below. I'm pretty sure it will work if gpsd recognizes your device.

--edit-- To resolve permissions issues I think I should re-write this by storing map files in user home dirs instead of /usr/share. Makes it easier for file manager GUIs.
