Kali linux on cf-19 mk3

#1 Post by scottie4442 »

Just finished an install on Kali on my "new" cf-19 mk3. Everything worked right out of the box, did have to do the xinput_calibrator for touchscreen. Oh I changed the HDD out for ssd, 128gb, and upgraded to 4gb ram. As of now everything seems to work great and really fast, faster than my large regular notebook I have been using. I plan on adding GPS in the future, I will post on how that goes.

I will. I am going to put it on a cf-30 mk3 also, see which I prefer, then I will install something else on the other one.

ok spoke a little too quickly, everything working except the screen rotation. i have een looking at how to get this working and all the posts online are using xorg.conf which debian no longer uses, kali is based on debain 7 wheezy. i will keep on looking but nothing so far. on another note all the fn key work straight out of the box, not the ones on the front of unit except for the screen brightness, am continuing to look into this as well. further updates as i make them.

I was going to post a how-to on screen rotation. The only thing I couldn't do was tie it in to the CF-19's front button.

Please post or send me that tutorial, I can just setup am keyboard shortcut to do this. I have been researching the front buttons and can not get a response from acpi or key checker. I have not been able to get any info from any of my linux friends yet, will keep trying.

I was never able to figure out the signal the buttons were sending. I thought once about using .wine and seeing if a driver could be loaded there. Got lucky and sent the 19 away. :D

Thanks Shawn,

First Linux post in our wonderful forum has some hints, look for "tweaks" and as Sadlmkr said "9nine9's comments:
http://www.toughbooktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=51
hotkey links from above:
http://www.da-cha.jp/letsnote
Good stuff!
Might be easier if all the Panasonic out of the box functions are important is to have a dual boot menu, getting Win7 up and running with all the tweaks, and then adding the favorite Linux flavor of your choice in the boot menu, or... just use a bootable live persistence Linux distribution when you want to use Linux.
Sadlmkr, would you like some cheese with that wine? We can get you another 18/19 to play with if you don't have enough toys :salute:
CF-53 MX-Linux 21 Wildflower
CF-30 MK2 SSD MX-21 Betsy, MK2 Navigatrix, Fundraiser for TbT
CF-52 GUN SSD MX-19
(NICE) Thanks Sadlmkr
CF-M34 MicroWattR8 Thanks Sadlmkr
CF-M33 MicroWattR8 Thanks Springfield
