Debian Wheezy on a CF-19 MK-1

Hello all,

I picked this MK-1 up saturday and 5 hrs later (we had to Christmas shop) I was home. That was a long ride when you want to tinker, then I had to eat, clean house for company coming over. Finally I got to tinker, a couple hours later I had Debian loaded and booting.

I have xfce for a desktop and "tiny" runs fine, I did have to manually load iwlwifi and modprobe it to get wifi. I also had to unwrap the hdd and pop it into another computer to build the system. The installer (2 different ones) choked on grub, lilo and I was studying for finals at the same time. I could have plucked through the grub2 install but didnt want to take the time. Also a MK-1 fires fine on Knoppix.

I have been using it all day today at school and studying. I have been converted, I really like this little guy.

I will finish tweaking tiny after Wednesday finals are over. I plan to find and list all the modules needed so anyone else has an easier time loading Debian. Strangely the Debian wiki lists a bunch of computers but no one has made a Panasonic page. We should change that or make a list here for the various flavors of Linux.

Greetings! Here are two different Debian variants that work quite nicely on an CF-18 and CF-19, as well as older and newer model Toughbooks:

These should find your wireless lan straight-a-way by clicking on the icon at the top of screen next to the battery icon and the speaker icon...The MK1 CF-19 also works quite well on many, many flavours of Linux, especially SoldydX and Mint to name just a few:

There are many more but these four listed above work quite nicely.
welcome to the madness.....

Debian Wheezy vs CrunchBang on a CF-19 / CF-29

OK, so I am hooked, I found a CF-29. I write to the forum from it right now.

I tried 4 or 5 different distros then found an iso of crunchbang, burned it and loaded it.

I like it! So I wiped the disk with dban and did a proper job of setup and install.

The 19 still has Debian Wheezy with xfce, so I will play with both and consider
if I want to change it to #! as well. I plan to use the 29 for school work as its
a little beat up and the 19 is pristine, unless the bios resets, it only had 70 hrs on it
when I got it. It looks like it only has 70 hrs on it.

This 29 however has chips out of it and the display is a little dull, so it has a bit of
wear and tear.

I am hooked though, a regular laptop would not hold up to the physical damage one
of these can take.
