Zorin OS Lite with Toughbooks. CF-30MK3, CF-29MK4

#1 Post by SHEEPMAN! »

Interesting.

Small menu. Based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Wine pre-installed. (I use it for USAPhotomaps)
Cupla cute gizmos in the menu like the Zorin Web Browser Manager, Zorin Look Changer, and Zorin OS Lite Extra Software.

For experienced users or guys like me :) these are unnecessary as I normally use Synaptic Package Manager.

This is a pae package so CF-29 MK3 and below won't install it.

O.K..... "Extra Software" includes 6 packages, I selected VLC. Then there is Libreoffice, Games, Video Editing, mtPaint Program and xbmc. (Media Center as it turns out)

I used "Web Browser Manager" to delete Firefox just for grins. Annnnnd added Chrome. Midori is an option here. I did the add and delete this way just in case Zorin had some extras included. (instead of synaptic)

As the lite version includes Abiword I will go with that for a while.

Look Changer includes Windows 2000 and Mac OS X skins???

Running on CF-30 MK3 and CF-29 LTQGZBM so far. I'll switch the caddy to a CF-29MK1 in a bit. (remember the PAE part)

More as it occurs.

p.s. These are USB installs. I was requested? to delete "ui" from a line in syslinux.conf on the USB stick. Makes the install a little weird, just poke around until the command line shows up, then type help and your "F" menu will appear. Maybe I will sort this later. :D

Each time I hear about Zorin OS I expect Roger Moore to bust down my door and attempt to remove all traces of it from my hard drives. 8)
Daily drives a CF-31

Zorin was the name of a villain in a James Bond movie.

I like Zorin OS..Has enough built ins that I can load it without having to fiddle around.

The menu could use a search box. Simple straightforward OS that flickers. Wudayawannaguess it's 15.0 video. Checking now. Yep X.org Video Driver 15.0. Can't fool me I selected internal monitor in bios.

What version are you running Shawn?

I just read some crapola from some folks slamming this OS.

I'll make up my own mind...thank you. :D

I've never run a Mac. Does it really resemble Mac OS X?

Bottom line is it has pretty much all you need to get started with a Linux system with very little confusion. Touchscreen still needs to be dealt with. Psmouse still draggy on CF-29. But that's Ubuntu.

Nice job builders.

That's what I thought also. Bonus is that most stuff is the same location as a Win7 box. Easy for newcomers to find things.

Don't know about Touchscreen. My CF 19 is a digitizer

What version are you running Shawn?
I'm on the CF-C1 with Zorin 9 Lite: http://zorin-os.com/
I'm downloading some other distributions via FireFox and Transmission (torrent) while multi-tasking. There is a "run" button in the menu, sorta like "search", if the program is there it will lite up, i.e. xfburn....
I always load if not there: xfburn, xinput-calibrate, usb-creator gtk, etc right off the bat, AFTER updates have run.
I changed via zorin to a mac like screen from windows 2000 like screen. puts the docky on the bottom and menu top left.
I like this operating system on the CF-C1, very snappy and quite quick. The touchscreen seems spot on with this CF-C1, and the calibration program not really needed. No screen flicker, however I am half blind :newbie:
More information to follow. I just "mintified" a Sony laptop at work for a friend, and she's working great!
CF-53 MX-Linux 21 Wildflower
CF-30 MK2 SSD MX-21 Betsy, MK2 Navigatrix, Fundraiser for TbT
CF-52 GUN SSD MX-19
(NICE) Thanks Sadlmkr
CF-M34 MicroWattR8 Thanks Sadlmkr
CF-M33 MicroWattR8 Thanks Springfield
