Linux 14.04 Navigatrix June 2014 and the CF-18

#1 Post by UNCNDL1 »

I just got this CF-18 that has a digitizer and no Wireless, loaded Navigatrix 0.5 from June 2014 found here: http://navigatrix.net/support.php
She loaded just fine with an external DVD player.
I configured gpsd, from this link: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1319&start=50
which is already installed to /dev/ttyS5 and re-booted, loaded Foxtrot GPS from the menu. She found my location on the patio immediately, (see screen shot). More information to follow. :pat:
From what I can tell, this version of Ubuntu 14.04 works well with the CF-18. Note, I do NOT have a digitizer yet to play with touchscreen and calibration functions. However, with a wireless card and this operating system, the native Panasonic GPS found my loacation immediately. Best Regardes, KC

Cleve,

Email me your address and I will have a CF-18 digitizer pen, and lanyard if you need it, in the mail tomorrow.

When I had Nx loaded on the CF-18 I was working with getting the GPS working, I didn't have to do any calibration, digitizer worked spot on out of the box.
Mine was a CF-18NDHMXVM that I added OEM GPS and bluetooth to. FYI.

Life's Journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn-out shouting 'Woo Hoo! What a ride!

There is always something waiting at the end of the road, if you are not willing to see what it is, you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place.

Cleve, I was sorting through some notes and guess what I found.
Your address.....hehehe
It even said 'new' on it, and it was right above your old address, so I know it is correct.
Hehehe
Now I feel better. :)

:salute: :salute: A little update on the CF-18 and this Linux distro. Current Navigatrix 0.5 June, is a variant of Ubuntu 14.04, much like Lubuntu. Yes, it is geared for the navigator, however it works quite well as an every day operating system also. It's quite customizable (is that a word?), and very easy to use. Much like XP, without any headache(s). The menu is simple, down in the left hand corner. The bottom toolbar is easy to change around, eliminate, add/subtract as you please. I like to add the Word Processor to the bottom toolbar, along with a few other things. Out of the box, you don't need to update it or run anything to make it perfect. Yes, there are over 40,000 free programs to run from the Software Center. You can even add Ubuntu Software Center and have MORE programs to play around with. No viruses, No Malware, No baloney. Works well on the CF-18, 19, 29, 30, 52, CF-C1(in my humble experience). The older version, 0.4 works nicely on a CF-28. If you are having trouble making a bootable CD/DVD/usb, just let me know. I'll send you a working one of your choice. Not a guru, just a happy guy that likes to tinker. Best regards, Cleve :salute:
