SOLYDXK ON A CF-29HTM50BM 3 TWEAKS 9 STEPS

#1 Post by SHEEPMAN! »

Things to do with the assumption that all updates were installed. Works on a lot of toughbooks.
---------------------------------TOUCHPAD (PSMOUSE CF-29, CF-18 &?)------------------------------------------------------

1. In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo xset m 8 1
#speeds up the touchpad immediately.
2. In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf
3. In nano (text editor) type

Code: Select all

options psmouse resolution=400
#[ctrl][x] etc. to save.
-------------------------------------CALIBRATE---------------------------------------------------------------
4. In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
#makes directory for calibration information. Only done one time.
5. In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install xinput-calibrator
6. In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo xinput_calibrator
#runs calibration utility
7. A terminal was opened by calibrator....copy contents (see sample below) as you will paste it at step 9.
8. In terminal

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf
9. In nano paste calibration numbers and save.

As usual touchpad is very slow on the CF-29 series basically driving you crazy until 1 above. You lose this with re-boot hence 2 and 3 which make the change permanent.

I did not use synaptic package manager here as this is a bit of a terminal tutorial. This information is valid for most xorg based distros. The usual caution to exactly match highlighted input. Cut and paste at will. :) See example of copy and paste below.

Enjoy.

Different computer....so is this a double post?

CF-29 CNKGSKM Rubber BLKB, 1280 Ram, 180GbSSD (Intel 180)(techtuff adapter).

The stock wlan was flukey until second boot. (2100?)

I saw a post by my man Teo (Ohlip) recommending two boots. My take is the first cycle re-sets the magic section on mobo....second boot everything is cool. Teo's post was about Touchscreen...it's like a 7/8 power reset. Maybe 3/4.
Note: I'm too old to worry about precise info. trying to not lead you astray. Oh, I like puzzles, and I am working on them but I have chores to do ad infinitum. Hence my sporadic posting........also I am on the left coast and don't see yer stuff until I'm eating a third pound of ground grass fed beef...my other job.(raising the beef)
FYI dinner tonight is at 2300PDT.
MENU
Brown/scorch 1/3 pound ground ranch raised (grass fed) beef in olive oil
Turn it over and lay two pieces Monterey Jack on pattie)
Since of course we are cooking in a seasoned cast iron skillet shut it off .....put a lid on and let it swelter.

Ocho inquiring about left-overs.

G'nite.

Good stuff. I never bothered configuring the touch screen on my CF-29H and my 29N doesn't have one. I should give it a go one of these days.

Thank you. I've worked this down to a single page of instruction. Also xinput-calibrate is the best thing since fried cheese. :)
Now to get rid of the sudos....safely.

Cut and paste is better here...for instance watch the - and _ move after xinput. Calibrate changes to calibrator, X11 is always a capital X.

Thanks again,

I got a report from Cleve (UNCNDL1) that screen flicker raised it's ugly head on CF-30MK3 with SOLYDX. MK2 (30) no issues.

Two fixes for MK3.
1. Set screen to LCD in bios, or
2. Close lid to standby for 6 seconds or so.

Running

Code: Select all

glxgears
shows the frames per second if you are curious.

So, what changed between Mint 16 and 17? Is this a Debian thing?

Chime in please.

Jeff, thanks for the nice tweaks and steps for the CF-29. The CF-52 GUN is working well with SolydX, 32 bit. In all fairness, I only ran a "live" session via usb on the MK3 CF-30. I will pop in my spare caddy/drive and install SolydX and report back. Best regards, Right to Left, over and out.

Ubuntu users have had flickering problems with the Intel GM45 for a while now. Maybe we should look into the i915.powersave bug. Someone should try

Code: Select all

echo 0 > /sys/module/i915/parameters/powersave
