952- Report on conditions - worthwhile reading etc.

952 is radio speak with some agencies for the term report on conditions.

2. http://superuser.com/questions/147844/h ... -in-ubuntu
3. Newest update for me is getting ready to load Mint 17. Someone :) is sending me a copy of Mint 17 MATE and I went ahead and tied up the CF-30MK3 for two hours downloading Mint 17 64 bit with CINNAMON desktop. I have an empty ssd in caddy waiting for one or the other.
4. Meanwhile this is sent from a 1320 hour MK1 (30) CTSAZBM which will be for sale in a little while. It's complete w/80GB drive, new install of Mint 16 Cinnamon, optical, battery, power supply and bluetooth.
5. Since Paul, Cleve and myself have collaborated on Navigatrix (mostly Cleve UNCNDL1) I got past one more reason for keeping M$. GPS being the reason. Did a road trip in the boonies yesterday mapping for our fire dept. In this case I used WattOS and FoxtrotGPS on my CF-19MK2.
See the thread by (Paul Ador) either above or below this thread. viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1319 . My other reason for M$ is dealing with Logitech headsets. The dongle? disables sound in Windows and it comes back when headset is shut down. Not so YET with Mint. Sound is disabled and stays off. I say YET. Testing in progress. Also the transition to bluetooth is a bit hinky but it's probably just me. My wife likes Linux but NEEDS the headset so is running W7 on a CF-30 MK2.
end 952

Jeff, great to hear things are moving forward. The Mint 17 install disks and dongles were sent priority mail on Friday, should make it to the Hinterland soon!
I'm interested in the WatOS program-it must have worked or you would've scratched it. I've been reading alot about saving gps tracks (geo-caching) using a hand held gps, and then downloading the waypoints and tracks onto the computer into the Garmin maps I sent you. This will work with all maps (DeLorme, openstreet, openseas, etc.). More to follow, another all nighter with an aortic dissection.
P.S., just burnt you a copy of the new LMDE 201101 :newbie:

I am back home and looking for the blank dvd so I can burn a couple of disks and try out some of this. Will be loading up those linuxes and Steam OS to try out. First I have to finish up a dual core tablet for a forum member.

Subject Mint 17 Cinnamon

Don't run right out and grab a copy for CF-30 MK3 and below. This is early days for this OS (17) and a few problems arise ......it won't break anything but just wait a bit.

CF-53 runs quick and smooth no issues with 17 and what are you running Cleve? CF-C1?

We are testing. (Cleve and I)

More to follow in it's own thread as things develop. Why 17 is .......because it is LTS. (long term support)

May as well fess up. Cleve had this too on another OS. When it says there is a Ricoh gizmo somewhere......there IS a Ricoh gizmo somewhere. :D
While putting a cd in the caddy I saw a blinky light turned out to be a Cisco Aironet card in the PC slot.

Still flickering video but that may cure itself with an install rather than Live CD action.

Cleve's was the hidden PC slot on a 28 if I am not mistaken.

I may just install this on a ssd as intended.

Sadlmkr, on line now via live 17 MATE 64 bit usb downloaded here:
http://www.linuxmint.com/release.php?id=22
I downloaded it on my CF-C! (which is running the same above), and used the usb creator program in menu to burn an installable usb. She booted right up on the MK3 CF-30, and "super key" opens the menu!. Yes, I can confirm there is a slight screen flicker (I"m plugged into a/c), however I would hope this is maybe because it is running "live". I'll try it again in the morning with the 32 bit and see if that is any better. If not, I'll break my code of "if it aint broke, don't change anything" and I will install the operating system to the SSD hard drive on this 5,000 hour unit. PS, screen does NOT flicker with Mint 16 nor Navigatrix 0.5.

No flicker on CF-30FCS85BM either. The search goes on.

MK3 = flicker w/ 64 bit install. Cleve may try a 32 bit Live CD of this tomorrow.
MK2 = No flicky with same drive which is a....240 Intel SSD and Mint 17.

More as it happens.
