Confusing audio issue with CF-30

#1 Post by kopcicle »

I'm having what I think may be a hardware issue but we both know its difficult as hell to verify . Sound out the jack but nothing out the speaker . Pulse actually sees the headphones being plugged in and out . I'll include the usual data . I've verified that it isn't auto mute alsa or any of the usual . If anyone has had any issues like this I'd appreciate the help .

Re: Confusing audio issue with CF-30

#2 Post by UNCNDL1 »

This article has helped me in the past, lot's of good tips:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad ... chitecture
:salute:
Reading down through a very interesting article:

"Conflicting PC speaker
If you are sure nothing is muted, that your drivers are installed correctly, and that your volume is right, but you still do not hear anything, then try adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf:
options snd-NAME-OF-MODULE ac97_quirk=0
The above fix has been observed to work with via82xx

options snd-NAME-OF-MODULE ac97_quirk=1
The above fix has been reported to work with snd-intel8x0 "

If it's dual boot disabling sound on one system carries over to the other....so it's saved on the board...so power pull reset might clear it. Cmos battery not necessary.
I've been having issues with a Logitech wireless headset....there is a pulse audio thing I need to look up on another computer....same thing as above...battery pull reset is one way to reset system sound. IOW the headset grabs the sound but does not release it to normal. Mint 16 finicky....with sound. You need a command to re-configure the sound driver. More when I find it. :D
Fair for you/ Fair for me.

Don't know if you are dual booting and/or only Linux. I would try (just to fix your problem) loading a factory restore image, and turning on sound immediately...then restarting and booting into your Linux install and install a new operating system. Then go into Alsa and make sure speaker is unmuted. This has worked for me on a 29 & a 52 recently. Cheers

I don't dual boot anything . I do have a multi boot machine for work when I can't even show a hint of some commie pinko open source operating system but that’s it .

The only M$hit I have at all is in VBox .

So now for some additional info and tools

http://tinyurl.com/op5w7qb will get you a complete look at the machine via the alsa project script

http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet- ... asheet.pdf is the codec data sheet for the stac9200

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

Code: Select all

 hdajackretask
This gets you a gui for re-tasking jack assignments for the HDA_Intel stac9200
http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/ ... eakers_on/

It's not a solution yet its just a few more tools to play with .

Just occurred to me . If Jeff or any other has a CF-30 with a working internal speaker , if I got a screen shot of hdajackretask and an attached copy of their alsa information script
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo

Code: Select all

cd ~/
  wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh
I can do a diff on the output or just a "mark one eteball where did I foo-bar this thing",

If we get this right it won't take the insertion of the recovery disc or drivers to fix . Now I only have 64,000 combinations to try out ...

I'll see what I can come up with on the above.

side note: rc'vd a machine with no sound on linux. I had a different caddy that was dual boot. Luckily XP loaded and there was the little mute sign in XP. There has to be a Linuxie way to re-set this critter.

Good stuff.

Jeff that would be running the alsa info script before and after turning the mute off in windows as well as the screen shot of hdajacksretask before and after . If I recall correctly this is a ~/C-D specific (MK-1) issue as sound changes with the MK-2.

If I can just get a alsa info output to compare with mine from a MK-1 I can produce the diff file . Also if I see a Screen shot of a complete screen shot of all pins from hdjacksretask , both from a working MK-1 I can probably finger it out .
