This concept of building the Linux package around the users tools is intriguing.

Thanks for the update on B. :) I have a 76 Ford F350 that might suit. One door is hand painted with a brush, but who can see from the inside. We're glad she is O.K.

I was looking at four hour downloads ....lots of chance for error. Thank you for that.

New direction (distraction) 3.8.13 tiny core linux. Trying to decide between desktops...favoring Ice. Then onto a 16GB stick. Or????

Re: Linux boat navigation OS/Navigatrix 0.5

Here's a link to the documentation page for Navigatrix 0.5:
http://navigatrix.net/nxdoc/docs/confignx.html
There are lot's of tips on configuring your install and customizing it too.
If anyone knows how to download the older version of Navigatrix, which is 0.4, I'd really like to get my hands on a copy.
P.S., this loaded via cd/dvd drive on a CF-28 PIII with 256 GB RAM. As above, you can run this in RAM and/or install it to your hard drive(s).
Best regards to all

Just loaded Navigatrix 0.5 on CF-18 and WOW this is great! Very nice and complete setup, and works mostly like Windoz. Pretty fast on 18, now to try a 19 and for fun a 34-1GHz.

How do I get a detailed map and/or chart of US east coast/Florida?

Here's the main page link for FoxtrotGPS:
http://www.foxtrotgps.org/
There should be a way to ad maps/charts of your area to use in this as well as possibly in OpenCPN found in Navigatrex"
http://navigatrix.net/nxdoc/docs/nxapps.html#navigation
How to load/preload maps found here:
http://www.foxtrotgps.org/doc/foxtrotgps.html
More reading and testing involved... :notworthy:
We as a group using the Open Street Maps can upload our tracks and contribute to the project:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=5/51.500/-0.100
From the above site, here is a map of my work area in NJ:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/170562
