It was just to test it out. I have a compact flash GPS I used on that MK 5 so the software was already on it. I was thinking of putting in my CF-28, but haven't had the time to properly mod it yet. I think I need a antenna with longer wire to do it how I want it. I am looking at getting one or two more of the GObook 2 units and very close on pulling the trigger on another one, it seems that they will fit a lot.

Did you take it apart and see what the antenna looks like?

Here is a link of the GPS if anyone is wondering what we are talking about.

Not yet, my time at home has just about run out. Tomorrow around lunch I get on a plane to head back to work. I might take it to work with me though and play with it some. I thought about splicing a longer antenna wire but don't know how well that would work. Since I don't really have a need for the Pcmcia slot on the CF-30 or my CF-19 I have thought about putting one in it and just running a longer wire antenna for them. If I get more than one I know for sure one will go in my CF-28 and then I will just have to do some modding for a antenna.

That's what I was thinking about too and also not sure if the antenna will fit in the 18 bump out but will see soon :)

For your info, guys. It uses a sarantel antena. If you could dismantle that bug casing it will reveal the antena. Hope it has a radom black covering so that you can place on top of LCD. If it has only a plastic for internal let me know I have still spare radom black covering for sarantel. And yes! you can replace by a longer coax.

I had this in mind in converting over for the 19's cover.

I have enough stuff to convert over factory wise two CF-18's, so I am not really needing to convert any of them this way. Since I have some bump outs now this would be nice for the CF-19 if I can get the length on the antenna right.

My GoBook II unit does have the plastic radome covering - Hooray! Just carefully squeeze the rubber cover base and slip it out of the PC card cover, then squeeze it the other way to let the Sarantel antenna fall right out. Seems to have some extra coax wrapped around a ferrite core, might be enough extra length to make it fit other places.

Well the GoBook 2 came today. Case, battery, etc is the same as GoBook 3 (which I have 2 good ones now) so I'm stripping it for parts. Took out the GPS with Sarantel antenna (and INF file -- thanks ADOR!). Found a DVD/CD-RW in the drive bay, turns out the DVD works but the CD part is dead -- no problem looks like the chassis will work for other CDs. Battery is starting to charge now. Keyboard and screen look the same as GB-3, keyboard is in good condition but screen has a few blems. This has an old Cisco 350 series wifi PC card on an adapter in the radio bay, maybe the adapter will be useful for something better.

Plus the GB-2 unit seems to boot up fine. All in all not a bad deal $33 for a bunch of spare and upgrade parts.

Thanks again Blair!

No problem...glad to help with feeding the addiction :D . My GoBook 2 and the 3+ (replacement) should be here tomorrow. Hoping the 3+ is in better shape than the one I returned to them last week.

Well I picked up my GoBook 2 & 3 today. The 2 was in really good shape with 3 hour battery which surprised me and the 3 was in better shape than the one I returned. It booted right up into windows and GPS works great but the battery is dead which is alright because I only needed 2 good batteries. The 2 I will not need a battery for it since its for work. Now to take the GPS off it and see how it's going to work/fit on my 18 :) .
