I just did the "upgrade" on my daughters FZ-G1.

It basically changes the [auto] setting on bios temperature setting to [HIGH].

As I understand it this is a temporary fix that limits the battery to roughly 80% by eliminating the [normal] setting. In other words it takes away the option of using normal.

Straightforward install taking only seconds.

Better safe than sorry.

On MY tablet which runs MX-16 I attempted the upgrade via .wine. Not happening.

My cure? while I decide whether to re-install W7 just to do the upgrade was to [GO INTO BIOS AND MANUALLY CHANGE THE TEMPERATURE TO HIGH. So unless I forget and reset the bios to defaults it is my temporary fix for the temporary fix. :)

I can confirm all of this. It's been out for a while now. They have pulled ALL the VZSU84 batteries from our US distribution channel and the only batteries I can order are the extended VZSU88 batteries until they come up with a fix.

Furthermore, it was actually a customer of Rugged Depot that had a G1 catch on fire which is, believe it or not what started the recall! Picture attached too of that unit!

Panasonic WILL replace your batteries free of charge for the life of the product so please take advantage of it! it's a HUGE safety concern!

Thanks!

Rob,
How can we identify a replacement standard battery? Not the extended one.
Different model number?
Lots of batteries for sale on Ebay.

Different model!

The NEW batteries are FZ-VZSU84A2U model number!!

If you find any VZSU84U's out there Panasonic will replace them no questions asked!!! They don't even want the old ones back! They want you to toss them!

Note that the 88 models (Extended life larger one) were never affected by the recall!

Thanks!
