CF-19 Repair & parts interchangeability with CF-18

I have a CF-19 that I bought with a broken screen, somehow the outer case of the lid was cracked along will the LCD screen, but amazingly the digitizer survived. This unit turns on and everything seems to work.
CF-19KDRL66B

Also I have a CF-18 with a problem somewhere in the power side, it runs fine on battery, but won't run on power, and it won't charge the battery. (I charged the battery with my main CF -18) I intend to use this unit as a donor.
CF-18DHB22KA

The backlight has failed on my main UNIT
CF-18DHA37KA

So after all that preamble I intend to:

1. Install the 18 screen from my bad power unit into the 19.

2. Put the 19 backlight onto the 18 screen

3. Put the back of the 18 lid onto the 19

4, Install the backlight from my bad power unit into my main 18

A, Will it all fit?

B, Is the 18 screen be too much of a downgrade for the 19?

C, Should I just fix the power problem on the bad unit , sell it and use the cash for thE best screen that I can get for the 19?

Intend to upgrade the 19 to 8gb ram, an SSD and windows 7 (32bit, then 64bit after upgrade.)

Screen resolution is the same but it won't work.

CF-18 Mk1 to Mk5 and CF-19 Mk1 and 2 a lot of the parts swap. The Mk3 is the new upgraded chassis. The screen this model also got a LED backlight.

IF and I mean IF the wiring harness for the 19 Mk3 will fit the 18 screen and then you can transfer the backlight (keep the led in CF-19 MK3 chassis) it might work. I haven't done this swap, but have worked on a lot of 18 and 19 units.

Thanks for the reply.

I obviously need to get a new screen for the CF-19.

What is the 'best' screen that I can fit into 1 CF-19 MK3? I may as well try to upgrade it if feasible / possible.

I think, THINK. Any screen from MK3 to Mk8 will work and will be plug and play.

May be best of to get a whole upper OR look up on ebay for a Mk3 machine with a bios password on it. You already have a good motherboard and swap your other parts over. OR get a stripper machine and upgrade to a Mk5 or higher.

Thanks for the info and advice (definitely worth a punt).

I'll look for a screen, lid, or a scrapper to cannibalise.

The base is in good condition.

Can't remember which 19 top is different. I do know the Mk 1 and 2 are the same but not sure about the MK3. I know the MK4 and up the lids are a little bigger so when you try to close it you can't lock it in place . I have a MK2 like this that I bought on eBay.

I Just happen to have brought some projects to work on. I just upgraded my middle son to a Mk5 from a Mk3. I have two Mk3, Mk4,5 and 6 with me. Putting the Mk6 and Mk3 side by side on the lid and on the top they seem to be the same size.

I know the Mk3 is when they did the lower chassis change as well and where the lid sides from a Mk1,2 won't fit.

If you happen to be in central Texas where I am working right now I do have a Mk3 that has no battery, no caddy and a bios passworded motherboard (but everything works).

Thanks for the extra info Guys

I'll get my screwdriver out and start dismantling my donor 18 and we'll see what fits what. Then I'll fix my original 18 and my 19 (and i'll prolly repair the 18 with the power problem, and be even more short of parts (but you know how that goes) it will be hard to take a 90% working machine apart for parts, but that's how I've ended up with 3 Toughbooks ).

The screens don't show up very often here (Perth, Australia) so I'll keep looking on Fleabay (I've got my eye on one in Scotland), and Gumtree (I got the 19 mk3 in Perth from a seller on Gumtree ).

I'd rather get a genuine screen than a copy, prefer to keep mine OEM where I can.

Thanks for the offer, but I've only been to Texas once, 20 years ago so it might be a while before I'm there again :0
