Should I be concerned about this "crease" thing?

#1 Post by Rob »

See the attached pic... it seems to be creased somehow and it bumps out a little bit. I can physically feel it in the screen of the CF-19.

The hinges are tight and whatnot and I don't think that this has been abused, but was just wondering your guys opinion on it.

Thanks!

Rob...Its normal for cf-19 as it is part of the screen bezel designed to reinforce it from bending. Its like an structural design. Mine has the same figure too. Don't you worry about that.

The question is why they made it so obvious specially outside while they can make it straight all the way.

so is the crease something that is molded into the plastic? or is it just something that has started happening?

It isn't plastic... It's metal (magnesium alloy to be exact). And the only reason I asked about it is because the other CF-19 I have does NOT have this...

I disagree with Teo on this Rob
Is this happening on that cheap cf-19 that you just bought?

I have seen this defect start on one of my cf-19's it is something to do with all the stress that a single hinge has to handle
Not quite sure on a fix though, the cf-19 that I have now is fine, but the first one I bought I sold quickly as is,just to get some money out if it

The problem with these is that when the laptop sells for over $3000 new that the replacement parts cost quite a lot of money
I remember that Teo had a very hard time trying to find a lid for his cf-19 (he looked for a lid for months and then just gave up hope)

My advice is to unload it as soon as you can, before the lid starts showing cracks
You won't get to much out of it in its current condition though, sorry

I do need a few parts , so I would consider buying it from you in it's present condition
The caddy by itself is worth $100+ the keyboard if it's OK is worth another $50 and if the base has not stressed too much from that bad hinge well its worth $150 or so
In a combined sale you don't get as much for it, I’m thinking $220 total with shipping I can offer you
Let me know quick, and please put it away and don't use it or that lid could fall off completely

Ha Ha its fine ….just messing with you

As I have seen and inspected it is a manufac..ing defect on the first series of cf-19 (MK1) and probably seen by quality control inspector and clear out the next to present series. I have one bezel with a crack shattered screen and see in the inside and it has same stage but as hard it can't be coz by folding and bending the sreen as it is hard as steel with no crack at all.

I have noticed that this unit with this weird crease thing has MUCH tighter hinges than the other unit did... Which in my mind tighter hinges are a big + in my book.

Probably Alex is right! as my comment above is only my observation. But theoritically he is right. As this area of the LCD is one always handling the pressure from folding close and often.

Rob... thats why my cf-19 is on ebay now! Lol

edit: I also notice the dif..nce between the cf-19 and cf-18 lcd bezel. On cf-19 the reiforce vertical layout that goes side to side below was cut out to give way for the speker without any other reinforcing link to the bezel when it move or fold. Thats how it explain it causes this thing to happen.
