hi.
i could not parse the question.

a) do you need help installing windows drivers on a toughbook?
b) do you need help changing the boot order in bios?
c) do you need to unlock the bios, so that it accepts a different harddrive?
d) something completely different?

folks will probably need these two additional information in order to provide support:
what is your FULL toughbook model number?
what your bios version number?

but would crash on windows start up. I do have restore disk from the vendor and an external cd/dvd usb drive I did go into the bios and tried to get it to boot from the cd but no luck so

Restore disk for the CF19?

No luck booting from USB DVD drive because why? Boot order? Unable to read from drive? Alien abduction?

Toughbooks are VERY picking about booting from an USB CD//DVD drive. Usually the drive must be a Panasonic drive.

Maybe just clone the 160 drive to the SSD via a USB external hard drive adapter. I like Acronis for cloning.

Hi Shawn

It may have been the boot order not sure about that one .
So I have ordered a couple of external sata hard drive enclosers do you think I could do it with one of them. Also I'm not to sure of the cloning process so maybe a little more info that would help, do I need any special software for that?

Yes, the external sata enclosure will work fine.

I use Acronis to clone my drives. It is a software package.

Windows has it's own built in cloning ability also.

Hey Shawn
Well I got the drive installed and it would read the external cd/dvd however it wouldn't launch the exe so I had to resort to a differant version of windows and now I am trying to get everything to work. I will let all you folks that helped me so far know it goes.

Load windows 7 from a USB flash drive. Make sure you change the boot order in the BIOS to boot from USB first. Then you will be given the option to format your SSD.
