My Mk5 came in today!

#1 Post by ADOR »

I didn't even hear FedEx come up but on the porch today was my Mk5. I opened it up and looked it over.

It has what looks like some kind of blue glue on every screw. That includes the lid screw, port cover and the ram and wwan doors. The carry strap end and latch are stainless with the usually rubber carry tab being leather. COA is MIA, the battery light came with when I plugged it in so I have some kind of battery in there. CF-19TSB17 is on the bottom with CF-19YJC7A1M in the bios screen. It has 20630 hours on the clock. I dropped my Mini 7 OS on it to try it out, didn't have time to do a proper install or driver load. The WWAN in the option menu has ID number of ff for what ever that is. It has a brand new looking rubber keyboard, 4gb of ram and I dropped a caddy with a 250gb hard drive in it. Bluetooth was the only thing disabled in the BIOS. No security or other stuff activated. It has the letters MIL-STD-810G underneath a blue and red shield that has gold wings and a sword with a red handle on it scratched up. They had two others for sale they put up right after I got mine that had the same but the logo was clear.

This is the one I got, http://www.ebay.com/itm/252604580218?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Here is a better picture of the logo on the lid on one of the units I didn't get.

From a link in the last auction posted I was able to get a close up and read what the logo said. AIR COMBAT COMMAND

You got a good one glad it wasn't password protected. . Gobi 2000 would probably work..........change the ff to 4 or 04. (I think ff = 0 =off) There is probably a list of the numbers some-place in Shawn's sock drawer. :)
Fair for you/ Fair for me.
I chose to NOT be organized.

I have seen the list before but don't use WWAN. I will probably pull it when I do a gps upgrade to it later on. I am on it right now, we just got back from taking the kids out to the fair tonight. Going to do some speed tests. I am sure the 2.5 i5 is a LOT faster than my Mk3 is.

I see this one came from the factory with 128gb ssd, too bad it's missing. The model number on the bottom is coming up some in google search more than the bios model number.

Blue stuff ...UGH...Been there done that. Several times.

It will all come off. Small straight pick and a new x-acto knife.
PICK ALL THAT STUFF OFF THE SCREW HEADS FIRST.
Have patience.
Otherwise you will strip the screw head slots.

The stainless and leather straps are hard to find. I got a set from Australia.

Most of the time, you can not find anything obviously different with a Custom BIOS. I think much of it has to do with security.
Even with a SPI programmer, those BIOS chips are unflashable. Totally different chip than a "normal" Toughbook.
On the CF19 with a custom BIOS that I worked on, it had a totally different motherboard part number too. Short story is that I could not even swap the BIOS chip. You're lucky it did not have a password.

Sox drawer? That's the drawer I keep my dead cat Sox in......
Life will beat you into submission.

If it would of been bios locked I would of skipped it unless it was only 50 bucks, lol. It has 4gb of ram so I am not worried about scraping it off just yet, but in the next few months when I do the GPS I will go ahead and up the ram to 6gb as I have a extra 4gb stick.

Even if I calculate shipping+import fees to NL, that's still a killer deal!

The Mk5 19's have been really coming down. I have seen some cheaper that I missed that had a cracked bottom or missing doors. I got that on hand so stuff like that isn't a problem.

I see the CF52's with ati have been coming down as well. I am still holding out for a 52 or 31 with 6750 or 7750 later on. Just got to get cheap enough, lol.
